Editorial Review for Simi's India Cuisine – by Noah Sternthal
The Scene
Simple elegant decor and gushing service may cause diners to forget they're in a strip center across the street from Crossroads Mall and instead believe themselves royalty in a friendly foreign land. Exotic scents fill the air and, coupled with the soothing faint Indian music, create a luxuriously relaxing escape--fears of a dry glass or an empty rice plate forever banished.
The Food
Simi's excellent Northern Indian (Punjabi) cuisine is highlighted by their sag paneer, an Indian version of creamed spinach with cheese. The pieces of homemade cheese are so fantastic they might cause you to slip into a temporary nirvanic state. The tandoori dishes are remarkably tender and flavorful, not to mention visually rewarding. For appetizers the vegetable samosa--think empanada--is a sure bet and there are enough versions of naan (Indian flat bread) to please any guru of Indian food. For those who don't know what to order there are several multicourse meals from which to choose and a fairly extensive lunch buffet.

My family and I have gone to Simi's for almost every special occasion and we will continue to do so. I don't know what happened the night the person with the negative review wrote but Little India is not India. My family lived there and have had authentic Indian food and Simi's is by far, the best Indian food in San Antonio. My sister and her husband had tried a place in Austin and both said it paled in comparison. We have never received such special treatment or great service at any restaurant. Many many times the owner has thrown in free food with our meal. He knows every one of us by name and personally shakes everyone's hands and wants to know how everyone is doing. The Chicken Tika Masala, the naan, the samosas are all to die for. I can't get enough of that place. Give it a try if you ever get the chance.
Pros: Great service, great food, great atmosphere
Cons: Located in a strip mall, not too big and not the fanciest place but worth it...totally

I really enjoy Simi's - I don't find the service cold, I felt like the wait staff was trying to give us space to have a romantic dinner. They never intruded on conversation, but I always had what I needed. I don't know about the rice prices that other reviewers talked about. I think the rice is only 2 or 3 dollars and when we ask for seconds, they never charge us. Also, several times the manager brought us free dessert. The food is wonderful and the bread is light and fluffy - not greasy like some naan or onion kulcha at other restaurants. I've never had a bad experience - I eat there regularly.
Pros: Swanky ambience, great food
Cons: none
