Editorial Review for Beto's Comida Latina – by Robert Macias
The Scene
Young couples and families dominate the ever-present crowd. Bright yellow stucco walls and '50s-style vinyl chairs keep the place feeling festive. Look up and you'll find rectangular lights covered with colored paper in various designs. One design sums up Beto's made-by-hand philosophy: a hand with a heart in the palm.
The Food
The empanadas may be famous for the pie-crust flakiness of the shell, but the fillings deserve just as much attention. From the subtle kick of chicken poblano to the creamy sweetness of banana with leche quemada, these pastries don't fool around. The thick handmade corn tortillas enveloping the tacos don't fall apart the way lesser tortillas do, so you're free to focus on the contents, from spicy-sweet tacos al pastor to grilled fish with cilantro and poblano sauce. Wash it all down with hibiscus honey tea or, for the more adventurous, the mint leaf and rum combo that is the mojito.

I had driven past this place several times before someone I knew actually ate there and told me it was good. I went on my own and was delighted that it is much better than it appears outside. There is a large parking lot behind (and to the right) of the building and also a nice patio for outdoor dining. They are ZAGAT listed (that was a surprise) and they take AMEX. The only thing I have to say that's negative is that the food is a little overpriced and the portion size didn't satisfy me; I'm not a pig or anything, but I'm used to getting more for my money. Service was GREAT, we sat outside on a breezy day and it was wonderful, even if I hadn't had two of their delicious margaritas. They seem to be best known for their empanadas which is bread stuffed with your selection from various choices. Each member of my party selected a different one and we shared tastes. They were uniformly good. I still intend to go back to try the other menu items, but for now I can vouch for the empanadas. Definitely try this place. This isn't exactly Tex-Mex; but related. A waitress told me the owners are from Ecuador. Some of the customers are snooty, but the staff is very warm and welcoming.
Pros: Unique, Flavorful, Palatable Latin Fare for the Unfamiliar
Cons: Portion Sizes, Snooty Customers

My wife, mother in law and I frequent Beto's sunday afternoons about twice a month. We LOVE the food! Very rarely are we not pleased with what we have. My wife and I especially like the Veggie Nachos. HUGE plate with delicious veggies and a fantastic poblano sauce on top. The empenadas are also amazing especially the chicken poblano. My only complaint is that the staff has really got to get some trainers in there. Like a previous reviewer said, they just aren't doing the job they could and I know for a fact that the management isn't helping the matter. It's time for this restaurant to find a team that can do the food team justice!
Pros: Foooooooood!
Cons: Service needs work
