The Scene – History buffs are in for a treat; this building dates back one and a half centuries. The original two-story home was completed in 1860 next to founder's Texas Milling Pioneer business. Both thrive today, including the restaurant, which opened in 1988. Check out the company store and museum. Decorative fireplaces are on all three floors, and there are two views of San Antonio River. There are also three tables for carryout patrons and a terrace roof garden for private parties (built in 1927). – – The Food – Food is prepared fresh daily. Taco soup isn't too…
One of the best places to take out of towners

I love this place. It is great for out of towners or just for a nice brunch for locals. The food is wonderful and prices are reasonable considering the ambiance/history. Highly recommened.

Great little place in the King William area
by bluerivertj
Looking for breakfast, brunch or lunch in the historic King William district? This is the place for you and your guest. The restaurant is located in the Poineer Mill Wing by the San Antonio River. The place is small, cute, it has an old time feel and cozy. The menu is limited, not a huge selection but what they have is scrumptious. The biscuit and gravy is huge, full of flavor, light and fluffy. The smoked applewood bacon is heaven: crispy, not salty and thick. The waffle and pancakes: yum. The house special coffee is delicious. Look to the blackboard at the door for the daily special. Get there early or be patient. As I said the place is small waiting time can be 30 - 45 minutes. They will hand you a pager for your wait, so you can spend this time browsing the muesum, shop or walking by the river watching the ducks. If the weather is permitting you can choose to eat out in the patio, it is great on a nice cool morning eating your breakfast watching the humming birds zoom by. The staff is friendly, the food served hot and your coffee cup is always filled. Visitors visting the King William area should finish their tour by having brunch here.
- Pros: Beautiful scenery, good food, friendly staff, parking

The River Mill Store offers gourmet baking mixes, custom stoneware, cookware, and other gift items. The rooms themselves, once formerly the music room and bedroom, feature fireplaces and distinctive tile work that are part of the original decor.
