Editorial Review for Tower of the Americas – by Shannon Botkin
The Appeal
If you only have time to visit one place in San Antonio, it should probably be the Tower of the Americas. Why? From the top, you can see just about everything else in San Antonio. The observation deck offers a panoramic view of the city and the rolling hills surrounding it. And from 550 feet in the air, the view is breathtaking.
Features
Glass-walled elevators rise more than 500 feet to the open-air observation level, where the restaurant serves up Southwestern specialties and the lounge serves pricey drinks. The Tower of the Americas rises from the Hemisfair Park, site of the 1968 World's Fair. The park itself is also a nice spot to visit, with peaceful pools and gardens and a children's playground.

I have lived in San Antonio my whole, and I still love going to the Tower of the Americas. Yes there is a charge to go up the tower, but it is inexpensive for a family of 4. Yes it could be pricey if you are taking a large group, but the sight is beautiful, and my kids love being so high in the sky where the whole city can be seen.
Pros: inexpensive

Last time I brought out of town guests to the Tower of the Americas, it set me back a pretty penny for the whole group. This is not a free site, though the view at sunset is well worth the money spent!
