A place for art of the ceramic, steel and wearable variety. – Play Dress-Up
Feel comfortable in cotton? Angelita's in La Villita is a great place to find reasonably priced, high-quality women's clothing made of all-natural fibers. Although owner Jean Pace has moved away from selling only Mexican products, as she once did, there remains plenty of turquoise and sterling jewelry, along with hand-woven sweaters and hand-loomed throws in Southwestern colors.
Arts and Crafts
Angelita's also offers the works of several local craftspeople. Among the featured artisans is San Antonian Arthur Schoenig, a steel sculptor who crafts mirrors based on glyphs, cave paintings, horned toads and geckos. Other local contributors are Nancy Pawel, a ceramics teacher at the University of the Incarnate Word who creates exquisite pottery, and Bertie Smith, who creates delicate ceramic bells honoring our city's patron saint, St. Anthony. Take the time to stop and look around, and don't forget to appreciate the interior decor, filled with Texas antiques including attractive antler lamps.
