The History
Legend has it that two Scots living in Hong Kong founded the original Mad Dogs British Pub in 1984. A couple of years later they opened another on the Chinese mainland. Oddly enough, in 1995 the San Antonio Riverwalk was graced with Mad Dogs San Antonio. After quickly glancing through the drink menu, it becomes obvious that the Scots' research in regions outside of Texas (gasp) paid off. While purists will be satisfied with Hennessy XO and 18-year-old Macallan, Mad Dogs pours up three types of "orgasms" and other kinky-named cocktails.
The Grub
While haggis (stuffed sheep's stomach) isn't on the menu, most of the food isn't much more appealing than that. Like bar food everywhere, all the entrees are a little more palatable if you start with a drink for an appetizer.

Mad Dogs is an okay place to have a beer but do not order food. We ordered fish and chips thinking how do you mess up fish and chips at a British pub, right? WRONG! The fish and chips were horrible. Neither my husband or I even touched the chips b/c the looked horrible. My "salad" arrived as a pile of iceburg lettuce with a mound of cheddar cheese. Not good... Seriously how do you mess up fish and chips at a British Pub???

Maddogs is a British themed pub/club located right on the Riverwalk where the waiters were kilts. They have really cheap beer specials, however, there is a cover charge on the weekends. They offer live music, karaoke, and dj music. They do have a food menu to grab a bite to eat. It's a good place for entertainment.

Tried to visit Friday July 25/08 about 9:00 pm. My wife and I are in our mid to late 50's (grandparents). The 3 'doormen' wanted ID ?? I wasn't carrying mine as we had not gone into town by car but were taking a taxi. One of these geniuses then proceeds to tell me that "US / Texas Law states that all Canadians / British visitors must carry their passports at all times"; idiotic!! Went elsewhere. This place really does not make visitors welcome at all. Avoid if possible. Derek P Toronto, Ontario, Canada
