Lunch 9/5 and dinner 9/19. I have come to eat here for 27 years! I love the pea soup!!!!! With a Frankfurter or Bratwurst..... It's all good! And of course the 2 slices of punpernickel bread....... Last night I could not finish it...... My wife had the parprika chicken with noodles. 3 home made rootbeers and ice tea..... Oops almost forgot the salad...... total was $13.50 without the tip.... Of course I left one for my waitress. Nice people!!!!! GREAT FOOD AND GREAT VALUE!

Cheesecake to die for. Found this place on town pass during basic training in 1972. Have been going there whenever I was in SA ever since. That includes when I was stationed in Omaha and hauling a cheesecake back in a cooler. I aimed hundreds of people their way when I was a recruiter in IL.

Authentic German delicatessen!. This place has great food! Its a nice place to go for breakfast. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced.

All n all, a very good place to eat!

Awes. I went to the restaurant today for a lunch meeting with my International Society class, and I was so impressed with the place. The food is delicious, service is awesome. Definitely a fun time to be had here.

the closest. I'm new to SA(3 1/2yrs) and lived in Germany for 2 1/2yrs serving in the military and I must say that its the closest to real German food that I've had in some years and I love this place.

It's a businessman's friend, a historical landmark, and the best place in town to sip soup or homemade root beer.. The Scene
The huge main dining room, filled with aging beer signs and various Deutsche flags, does a consistently brisk business with its huge sandwiches, trademark split-pea soup and miscellaneous sausage and kraut plates. If you're lucky, you can jockey for one of the coathook-studded booths that line the west wall.

The Food
Schilo's also happens to be an old-school take-out deli. Choose from one of their favorite sandwiches (Reubens, subs, bagels and lox or the always-popular Polish Neighbor), or go a bit more traditional with single meat selections. Top it all off with ever-full plates of rye bread and sweet butter (the German version of chips and salsa) and a frosty mug of their homemade root beer, or try one of the German and local beers on tap. As you try to leave, Schilo's waitresses--most in their early 60's, wearing poofy peasant blouses--will tempt you with dessert offerings: They serve sublime fruit strudels and hunks of rich cheesecake.
