Did not meet expectations. Overpriced, below average, does not live up to the hype, and failed to meet expectations. We took our daughter and boyfriend there for a university graduation celebration as the reviews were positive and my wife and I had passed by the restaurant many times over the years and thought it might be a nice place to try out. We sat on the patio, which could be wonderful, but the seats were the most uncomfortable I have ever experienced and the table wobbled. The food, service & wine were all average. The waiter didn't know the menu. They ran out of bread and had to go nextdoor to get some. The appetizers took almost an hour to appear, but they were actually the best part of the evening. Snails, Pate, and Crab Cake were superb. Entrees were OK at best. The Beef Wellington is a $46.00 joke. They grilled a filet, smeared some pate on one side and then sandwiched it between two triangular pieces of filo pastry. Although the filet was cooked beautifully, it wasn't a beef wellington, and I can do better. The Rack of Lamb was another $46 joke. Hardly any meat and not much flavor. However, my daughter's boyfriend enjoyed the duck. We shared a Baked Alaska for dessert and that was pretty good. The bill came to $380 for 4 and, for that price, I would expect to be "wowed" by everything about the place. However, the feeling was one of being mugged. We won't return. I have had better experiences at Chilis and Denny's for one tenth of the price. Sorry...
so poorly run for so expsensive "local" owners are absentee go to Biga's. Stay away save your money. Even though we had reservation and restaurant was empty on a Saturday (should have been our first clue) the maitre?d sat us in a horrible place telling us that they would be filling up. It was 8:15 and no dinner customers came in after us. He failed to give us menus which we waited for, for 15 minutes. We order a nice bottle of wine and were brought the incorrect vintage waited another 10 minutes then offer a substitute year by a friendly albeit inexperienced wine steward. Food was adequate but evening ruined our tab for two was over $400 and still service levels were barely one star from the host. Easy to see why this place was empty and our meal at Biga on the Banks on Friday was half the cost and twice the value. Owners better take a close look at operations here. Certainly would never consider for one of our groups or special occasion. What a shame a pretty little place that stakes its reputation on local ownership but has none I even tried calling to get the owners name and no one would give that out . Not sure what they are hiding.
The best part was the view... which says a lot about the food!. The view from the patio was wonderful, and the atmosphere outside was lovely, but the food was remarkably average, and the service left a lot to be desired, both of which were disappointing considering the prices. There are much better restaurants in San Antonio in this price range.
Be careful with your credit card. Be sure to check with your credit card company, the server changed the amount of my tip without asking. The receipt at the restaurant shows what I authorized but the amount at the credit card company was about $29 more. Therefore, it was fraud. Use cash if you dare go there.
One of the worst run places Ive been.
I do not traditionally take the time to write reviews like this. Spare yourself. Go to a steakhouse. This place is dated and the management is pathetic. I had a reservation 3 weeks in advance and they made me wait an extra 45 minutes for my table. I wanted to eat here because of the dessert and they ran out everything by the time my meal was over.
I don?t want to talk about the restaurant. It is fine, I suppose. The waitress was cool and the porch was nice. I would expect this for the price. What I do not expect is a manager that could have easily assimilated at my neighborhood Olive Garden. We were never unreasonable and my wife and I were determined to not let this guy?s attitude ruin our first wedding anniversary. In his opinion not one part of our bad experience was his fault. The answers of the night were ?Hey, these things happen? and ?You are wrong?. He even had to the nerve to raise his voice to my wife.
Upon leaving we had the pleasure of running into the manger outside the restaurant. He was crying to the dishwashers at the freight entrance. They saw me and became abrasive. There was a discernable tension that I have only felt before a potential physical fight. One of the kitchen workers offered a sarcastic ?have nice evening?.
If you go there and do have a bad experience I would advise against expressing your displeasure. You run the risk of being jumped outside. Pretty classy.
This Riverwalk standby serves up wonderfully composed dishes in a romantic alfresco atmosphere..
In Short
Located in a bustling part of the Riverwalk, this relaxing restaurant manages to avoid commercial traps prone to the neighborhood. The dining area is split between a Victorian-style interior and a multilevel villa-style outdoor terrace. The menu is made up of an impressive array of delicate, highly composed dishes. Decadent starters include escargots, foie gras and caviar. The lobster bisque is rich, sweet and subtle. Classic entrees range from a selection of prime streaks to sea bass.
You have to check it out yourself!!. It is definitely my favorite restaurant in San Antonio! The atmosphere was romantic (especially from where we were sitting -- table 701, the "Lovers' Table" in the upstairs Crystal Room), food was wonderful (escargot appetizer was unbelievable, beef entrees were superb and bananas foster dessert was unforgettable) and service was top-notch (our waiter, Adam, was very professional and took very good care of us). We are definitely going back to Fig Tree!!
Pricy but worth it. A large group of us showed up in jeans not realizing how upscale this place was but nevertheless received impeccable service. Inside looks like your rich grandmother's house (I didn't think it was romantic but the location/view makes up for it). Highly recommend the banana foster (the tableside flaming ritual is worth every $ you'll pay here). Ask the sommelier to recommend a wine but specify your price range or you'll risk an unpleasant surprise when the check arrives.
Wonderful Food, very Romantic. Thank you CITYSEARCH! We found this here and it was a jewel of a resturant. We went here for our one year wedding anniversary and will never forget it! We saw a tip here on city search saying to ask for the crystal room for a romantic dinner. BOY WAS IT RIGHT! It was a little room on the second floor with a view to die for and more romantic than even the nicest upscale resturant. We were the only people in the room and got the most requested for table in the whole resturant, the view was to die for and the food was fantastic. My husband and I both got the beef wellington and loved it! It was $100 for both of us and it was WELL WORTH IT! We will be back here for sure! -reservations required.
you get what you pay for. The beef Wellington was the best I have ever had. I highly recommend it. Ditto to all the other comments here. Wine list is amazing.
