It's not surprising Non-Texans don't understand a fine Txxas Steakhouse. I'm from Texas and I love the Little Rhein. Sure it's pricey. Good food isn't cheap. Quality dining demands quality pricing. Not surprised those from the North struggle with the price tags.
Overpriced, so-so food, not worth it. We wanted to go to a non-chain and try Texas steak. The steak was not really tasty. I mean- it was good but mid-chain quality. The twiced backed potato was tasteless other than the slight heat of the jalapenos. Tomatoes were not the quality you'd expect from a restaurant like this. The bread is the same as they serve at Outback. The asparagus was under cooked and tasteless. The wine was well priced. We spent almost $200 before tip. I would have much rather gone to Morton's whose steak always blows me away. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was cute (we sat in wine room).
Little Rhein Needs to grow up.
This restaurant was recommended by a Professional Aquaintance. Finding it was easy once we were seated, the Waiters (2) were hovering over us, hurrying us to order. We ordered some drinks and said give us some time. The waiter left and came back imediately and continued to want us to order. I ordered an appetizer which is the Lump Crab avocado. He left and was back in 3 minutes wanting to finish the order. We fetlt pressured into order. This is an expensive restauraunt and we should be left to enjoy the experience of the location and the history of this restaurant. They brought out a Black eye pea soup that was cold and had absolutely no flavor even as I added a bunch of salt. The Crab was brought to us and It looked more like a dip and I thought it needed some chips or something to go with it. We ordered the Riby Eeye and Salmon.
After what was in our opinion an very long time, I asked the waiter as to the Status of our food. He did not know and went to find out. He came back 5 minutes later and brought out our food which was still warm. after only a few bites, the food got cold on us. The flavor of the steaks was nominal, I have had better steaks from Krogers.
There is nothing spectacular about this restaurant. I believe that it cater to tourists and their quality control has disappeared.
Perhaps the Most Overpriced Meal Ever!. Wow, this place must cater to business conference suckers with big expense accounts. The prices are so outrageous for what you get that they're really comical! First, the menu is nearly all steak, so if you don't like steak, then you've got few options. The prices for these steaks are mostly in the $40 range. That of course, doesn't include anything. So a side of vegetables or potatoes is $8 - each! I was also very disappointed that they brought the wrong wine. I'm willing to pay the type of prices they charge here for someplace special - a place that has unique food that is well prepared. There is absolutely no value here.
Wonderful Meal. Food and service was wonderful. It was a Monday evening and there were no problems with seating. Atmosphere was quiet and cozy. I didn?t have anything from the wine list.
quaint restaurant with great steak!. My date - a know glutton, said that this was among the best filets he has ever eaten. Perfectly cooked, wonderful flavor, good service, tasty side dish, fresh appetizers, robust wine list (including by the glass). As for me, I also thoroughly enjoyed my perfectly appointed steak, tasty beefsteak tomato salad and well prepared martini. The chocolate cake was moist, and a well chosen compliment to our coffee at the end of the meal. Many thanks to the cab driver who recommended that we eat here.
Nasty!. I was visiting Texas from out of town and was looking forward to a delicious steak. I didn't want to go to a chain, and this place seemed to have good reviews, so I decided to check this place out. The quality of the meat was lacking. I ordered the ribeye, which I knew would be fatty (it's my favorite cut normally), but I ended up throwing out half of it because it was all fat! Totally not worth the price I paid.
Best Birthday. Thank you to the Little Rhein Steak House for the best birthday that I have had in 45 years. From the moment that my date and I pulled up until the point in which we we leaving, we were greeted and treated like special guests. Our waiter, John, was not only very professional, but he was also very personable. The food was excellent. We started with the beefstake tomatoes, then the steaks, asparagus, potatoes and finally the chocolate cake. The wine that we drank was also superb!
Don't waste your money.
Visited San Antonio this weekend, was looking forward to eating some good steak.
Little Rhein is NOT the place. Very disappointing food, and especially service! Too many, so i'll just list:
restaurant/service:
was not greeted by hostess
very cramped restaurant
no parking lot, valet only
unprofessional/unclean appearance of wait staff
unfriendly wait staff
waiter did not wait until i cut into my steak to leave (ordered a filet rare)
waiter did not serve ladies at table first
no "thank you" at all, even when walking out of the restaurant
steak had no flavor (table next to mine using A1!??)
A1 on a $40 overcooked steak, should tell you something is wrong, either with the steak or the clientele. my opinion? BOTH
A little stone house with history that's meaty and meat good enough to make history..
The Scene
Part of the city's original settlement, La Villita, the Little Rhein also opens onto the Riverwalk. The location wasn't always such a good thing; the downstairs rooms were completely hidden by silt from river floods until the '50s. These days, the historic charm brings even locals into the heart of the city to celebrate. The limestone walls of the former home transform the Little Rhein into an intimate environment for great conversation and a good glass of wine.
The Food
A favorite for convention-goers on expense accounts, Little Rhein serves thick Texas steaks and hearty potatoes, as well as lamb chops, lobster tails and salmon. Accompaniments like asparagus and sauteed mushrooms and a nice wine list flesh out the carnivore binge most visitors come here for.
