RIVERWALK Mexican Restaurant. If you visit San Antonio Riverwalk, eat at Casa Rio. The food is always good and inexpensive.
Highly overrated. We have eaten there a few times over the years. The atmosphere is nice. Good people watching place. Food seems like a TV dinner heated in a microwave and served on a plate. Don't hang around too long though. They don't like "campers". Have to turn those tables.
Colorful umbrellas outside and good food establish a quintessential Riverwalk dining experience..
In Short
This venerable staple of downtown serves basic Tex-Mex fare to a capacity crowd. Prices are more reasonable than many newer Riverwalk offerings. With stucco interior, colorful tile and decor details, and waitresses with flouncy peasant dresses trimmed with bright ribbons, Casa Rio's style is one great south-of-the-border cliche. But isn't that one of the reasons why people come to the Riverwalk? Margaritas and Mexican beer help wash down the mounds of chips, cheese and beans.
