Huge Disappointment. This is the first time I have ever been so disappointed in service that I felt compelled to write a review. My husband and I were visiting the city for the first time to celebrate our wedding anniversary. After exploring many dining options on the Riverwalk, we chose Italia. It had a nice upstairs balcony that overlooked the river. Unfortunately, our experience mimicks the prior review. We didn't receive our appitizer until 45 mins after beind seated. Our meal didn't arrive for another 30 mins after we finished the appetizer. I ordered tortillinil, and my husband ordered a salad with blue cheese dressing on the side. The dressing had the consistency of skim milk. How hard can this be? The most upsetting part of the experience was that the service was abysmal. We were offered no apologies, no remorse -- only an outrageous tab for some pasta and a salad.

Poor service. Family dinner was ruined by poor service and a surley additude of our server and manager. Because we had children with us, he could not be bothered. We begged for bread. The veal was sent back twice. The second time, the server said he would have removed it from the bill. When the bill was presented to us, the veal remained on the check. We questioned the server. He said that the manager would not take it off as a portion had been eaten. We asked to see the manager, who also was curt and rude. She told us she would have a look at the uneaten veal, then disappeared. After a lengthy wait, the check was brought out to us with the veal still on the bill. They even charged the 20% gratuity on top of this for service....

Horrible experience. as a local of San Antonio I seldom eat at the riverwalk and for many reasons. Firstly try and find a decent meal at a decent price. I don't mind paying top dollar for top dollar food, however, Italia was a complete rip off. I was going to the theater and was looking for a bite to eat. There were 4 of us and we were on a time schedule. We made this clear to our server. We sat down at approximately 7:05 and ordered a bottle of wine and 3 appetizers. At 7:45 our appetizers arrived. We had to leave in 5 minutes. Needless to say the overall experience was terrible and I will never return.

Fill up on standard Italian fare at this inviting Riverwalk overlook.. The Scene
Italia resembles a leisure-friendly Mediterranean restaurant complete with a view of the waterside. But as comfortable as the environs seem, don't be fooled. This is a Riverwalk restaurant and follows the typical Riverwalk turn-over-the-tables rule that prizes speed over leisurely dining. Nevertheless, the prices are reasonable, and you can have a full meal for less than you'll pay at nearby establishments.

The Food
There's nothing wrong with the classics, and Italia offers them all, from lasagna to chicken parmesan to fried cheese appetizers. Unfortunately, complex flavors never surface at this haven of butter-saturated vegetables and cheese-suffocated dishes. Both the cannelloni and manicotti primavera are extremely rich and overly filling. Even the multilayered tiramisu lacks dimension. The most flushed-out element on the menu is the excellent wine list, which Italia trumpets as the most extensive on the Riverwalk.
