I enjoyed an enchilada platter at Blanco Cafe a few weeks back. Delicious food but just mediocre service. If they get fairly busy, expect to wait a little while for your food/refills. Still would recommend for a quick afternoon lunch though.
The service here is the worst service I have EVER had in my life. We had to ask for refills and when we stopped the waitress once to ask her for silverware that one of my co-workers never received she started walking away without acknowledging that we even spoke to her and before we could ask her for anything else. She also felt there was no need to actually hand each one of us our plates, instead she set all of them at one end and expected us to figure out whose plate was whose as well as pass it down to each other. The staff here look like they hate their jobs and treat there customers like crap. I took two of my coworkers here for lunch and it cost me $40 for three people. They charged one coworker twice for lemonade because there are no refills. I ordered queso and chips and they gave us maybe 15 chips to go with it, when I asked for more chips, since we had a full cup of queso still sitting in front of us they charged me for another order of chips. Of course they never mentioned that if you wanted more chips that you would have to pay more for them or that a refill of lemonade would cost extra. When I got to the front to pay the cashier/owner she doesn't even have the time to look up to or speak to who is paying her and of course when I asked about the extra for chips she gave me a look like I was an idiot and told me that's just how it goes. Can NOT believe this place is even still open. I will be posting this message everywhere I can find to post it as well as warning every person I run into in downtown San Antonio to never step foot here. I will also let anyone I know here in SA, Austin, Houston and Dallas that they would not want to ever go to Blanco's and to warn anyone that they know as well. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!!!
Good food!.
This is a very good place to eat in San Antonio. The service is great and the food is excellent. As the name suggests, it is definitely a "cafe"...not a nice restaurant to impress anyone.
My only complaint is that they served NO red picante sauce. The only hot sauce they had was verde. It was spicy, but not flavorful (to my taste). I didn't realize how much I loved red tomato-based salsa. I'm usually easy to please, but it totally ruined my meal. If red picante sauce is not a requirement for you when eating mexican food, this place is wonderful. If I had known there was none, I would have brought my own and been satisfied.
Awesome mexican food at great price. This place is not on the Riverwalk with the overrated high priced restaurants. This is a simple, high quality place that has fresh food with an authentic taste. The staff is friendly and this is where the locals eat. It is a 5 minute walk from most Riverwalk hotels on St Mary's and simply is the best. It is only open for breakfast and lunch, unfortunately. We had chorizo w eggs, refried beans, carne guisada and fresh tortillas and coffee - wonderful!!
A San Antonio landmark.. There are literally thousands of mexican food restaurants in San Antonio. I would only recommend a few -- Blanco Cafe is one of the top five mexican food restaurants in San Antonio.
Blanco review. Best breakfast, very reasonbly priced. Sunday mornings, crowded, but does not take long to find a table
