Best night ever in SA. Absolutely phenomenal entertainment! It is hard to believe such talent could all be assembled under one roof. Each entertainer could play a varied assortment of instruments and play them all well. How they remember all those songs and music, and can still work the crowd is beyond me. We've talked about going to HatM for a long time - it was well worth the wait and will put it at the very top of the list of things to do next time we come to SA. Wonderful, wonderful entertainment!
Don't go there if you have had a few cocktails....
Prior to going to Howl at the Moon, I had read several reviews. In particular, one that stated that they were refused entry because the group had been drinking prior to going to the bar. I thought to myself, wow - they must have been drunk and obnoxious at the door. How could anyone not gain entry into THAT PLACE. Well....needless to say.... after a day on the Riverwalk, we had two margaritas, got to the door and we were refused entry to the bar???? We didn't exchange any words with the door man, just simply handed him our driver's license. Hmmmmmm......
Seems that a certain underpaid doorman likes his little "power" of determining who can and can't come in. I would completely understand if we were loud, obnoxious, and overtly behaving like drunken fools - BUT WE WEREN'T.
We just moved on to a better "non touristy trap" bar....who gladly accepted our money and presence.
sh!t. well where do i start...no good looking broads, nogood songs worth listening, and certainly they do have watered down drinks do'nt belive me, buy there crown and then taste some real crown from the liqour store and see what i mean....i rather go to swigs..they don't pour water in my glass..
Great for Any Age. I think this is a great place to go for someone like me... I'm married with 2 kids, and find it hard to go to a bar where I can have fun. Howl is right up my alley! My husband and I go often and we even go with our kids when they come in town. I recommend this piano bar to everyone of all ages :) The music is great and the musicians are funny too.
WHAT?. This is not a place to go unless you want to get drunk. That's the only way you will enjoy the so called music. The least they could do is hire a hott girl to sing. Look at the video to see what I mean...can you say "soo-eh"!
Talented Musicians?.
I often question who is writing the reviews? I think the managers ask the employees to get on these websites and write great reviews.
The service is substandard, the food is substandard, the drinks are substandard. The entertainment is a few amateur musicians with the same line-up, jokes, etc. every night.
Several of these reviews speak of the talent of the musicians...I guess to a bunch of drunks they sound good. But to the finely tuned ear...the musicians are substandard too. They really don't know all the songs they are playing. They strike a few chords and get some words right and the customer who just tipped $20 to hear the song doesn't realize he has been had... All the while the piano guy is smirking.
Where are the talented musicians - NOT HERE!
Music venue? WHAT?.
This is a classic example of how CIty Search does not always work. If you look at the best bars and best bartender, etc. it is the same places over and over in the downtown area. It is obvious a few places caught wind of the contest and blew out the possibility of true results. How about places that will give you a variety of music styles? Sound quality, anyone?
The place is a blast, but it is the samedamn piano bar as anywhere else. Loud as h3ll, crowded as h3ll and expensive. Do I go there? You bet and I have a blast, but to put this down as the best music venue in San Antonio is a crime.
What about The Majestic (one of the best most beautiful... not to mention famous sound quality) venues in the U.S.A., Wise Guys (The old Rox), Casbeers, Broadway 50/50. There are a ton of places out there that offer a variety of music and not just a couple of "pianists" making panty jokes.
If I were to rate it for best piano bar I would give it 4 stars, but for best music venue I would give it <1 star.
Hey, Howl at the Moon folks? Why not allow the system to work. Over voting just to get some marketing is b.s.
Some of the best and most versatile musicians!. I'm not a go out all night girl (I have a 3 year old) but this place was so fun the time just flew by! We got there early cause i didn't think that we would be out past like 10. We didn't really have trouble getting seats at 7:30 but they filled up fast and when we left everybody was standing. I had a blast and watched the guys (and 1 girl) on stage all night. i noticed after a while that they could play everything up there! Not only do they know like every song but apparently they can play like any intrument too! Such a great night :)
tourist trap.
this place is too overcrowded, too expensive, and just a tourist trap...
not a place that people from san antonio actually go except for frat boys and sorority chicks
Great entertainment and specials for service industry people!!. Great place to go! If you are a service industry/hospitality employee, just show your check stub at the door and you'll get in for free, plus you'll get 50% off your tab 7 days a week! This is the only bar I;ve ever been to with that kind of offer!
