The Scene
Alamo Plaza Spa, beneath the historic Menger Hotel, provides stress relief with an intimate ambience. A sweeping staircase just past the pool leads guests underground to a unique spa experience only steps away from the Alamo. Fragrant candles illuminate and soften the dark, catacomb-like space. New age music, blue partition curtains, taupe tiling and minimal decoration set a soothing tone. Plan on mingling with a jet-set crowd--most clients are hotel guests, many from outside the United States.
The Services
Influenced by traditional bath towns of Europe, services focus on relaxation and regeneration using natural treatments. Kneipp products are incorporated into procedures such as the hayflower wrap and massage using steamed herbs and heat to relieve problem areas. Heady fragrances combine deliciously with geranium- and lavender-spiked saunas and tangerine-lemon salt scrubs. Packages include herbal scrubs, Swedish massage, aromatic inhalations and Finnish dry sauna.

This was a lovely treat to my busy schedule. The faclities are nestled in the lower level of the pool are of the Menger Hotel (which is beautiful as well). This offers easy access to Downtown San Antonio atractions yet seclusion from the noise of the busy tourist streets.
