I am a receptionist at Alamo Plaza Spa
and highly recommend anyone to visit us. A massage is a great gift! It is something different besides going out and purchasing a gift at a store. I hear many many times from our guests "that was the best massage I ever had". Massage can help you maintain physical, mental and emotional well being, especially when it is part of your regular wellness. Please visit us, you will NOT regret it one bit.

Excellent.
This was the best way to relax and enjoy a couple of hours in San Antonio. The best money spent and it wasn't as expensive as other downtown spas. I highly recommend everyone drop in and enjoy

Worst Spa Visit Ever!!!.
This was the absolute WORST experience I've ever had at a spa! I frequent the spa in the way of about 5 times a year. Nothing compares to what I experienced today.
We had to First FIND the spa which was hidden under the pool area in the Menger Hotel which smelled like old people. We finally found it after walking pass the green indoor/outdoor grass like carpet at the pool. We walk down the spiral stair case to find standing water with a brown stained concrete and dead crickets on the pathway. We walk in the doorway and I'm already second guessing this appointment. The person at the front desk has on no shoes. She mentions the receptionist was gone for the day and I ask who will run the front desk during our massage if she's my therapist. She says they will take care of it. They make us take off our shoes before walking back and they have no slippers. They send us to a small room to change and they don't even provide robes. We have to wrap ourselves in towels. They take us to our room and they have no ROOMS. They are tables in a large room divided by pull curtains like a hospital. One therapists starts on the person with me. My therapists is no where to be found. She finally comes in. I note the smell of old people again. She starts on me. I doze off halfway through and when I wake up I notice she is no where to be found. She finally comes back and continues to work and I doze off again and wake up to find her missing again. I asked the other Therapists if I was done and she said yes. I asked my therapist that was at the front counter on the internet what happened to her and she said she had to get the phone - it was ringing. Really??!!?? I'm a paying customer!!
DO NOT GO HERE!!!! If I could give it a negative 3 stars I would! Horrible!!!

Great experience.
Let me start of by saying I had issues finding the spa, so it is a good idea to call to get directions! When I got there, the spa receptionist was very friendly and made me feel comfortable. I was a little taken back at the size of the spa, it is very small, so I was a little worried. My massage therapist showed me to my dressing room and told me to wrap myself up in a towel. I thought that was odd, but then realized that there wasn't anyone walking around (besides myself).
Anyways, the service was absolutely wonderful! I am so glad I went to the Alamo Plaza spa, because they have the best prices downtown! $80 for a massage, not too bad when compared to the other prices of massages in other downtown san antonio hotels!

Beyond Horrid.
The one star rating was used only because there are no negative stars and none is not allowed.
Two friends and I had confirmed appointments approx. three weeks before we arrived in SA. The day before we left, spa personnel called my friend and said we'd all been moved to 11:00 from our original, earlier appointments, so we could be done at the same time. Okay, fine.
When we arrived in SA, the same friend had an e-mail "confirming" her 12:30 appointment. When she called, she received the run around. They would not honor either her earlier confirmed time or the 11:00 time she had received in a subsequent "confirmation" e-mail.
Long story short, the spa personnel cancelled all of our appointments, refused to honor our confirmed times, and were extremely rude. We were never given a satisfactory explanation of what was happening or why.
How they stay in business I cannot imagine. We made sure our hotel's staff knew of our issues as well as many other people we talked to in San Antonion.
Obviously a confirmation from them equates to "if we feel like serving you, we'll do it when we feel like it. Maybe. If we have no other planst."
I have never been treated so poorly by someone trying to run a business.

Secluded sanctuary.
This was a lovely treat to my busy schedule. The faclities are nestled in the lower level of the pool are of the Menger Hotel (which is beautiful as well). This offers easy access to Downtown San Antonio atractions yet seclusion from the noise of the busy tourist streets.

Simple, Euro-style relaxation and comforts next door to the shrine of Texas Liberty..
The Scene
Alamo Plaza Spa, beneath the historic Menger Hotel, provides stress relief with an intimate ambience. A sweeping staircase just past the pool leads guests underground to a unique spa experience only steps away from the Alamo. Fragrant candles illuminate and soften the dark, catacomb-like space. New age music, blue partition curtains, taupe tiling and minimal decoration set a soothing tone. Plan on mingling with a jet-set crowd--most clients are hotel guests, many from outside the United States.
The Services
Influenced by traditional bath towns of Europe, services focus on relaxation and regeneration using natural treatments. Kneipp products are incorporated into procedures such as the hayflower wrap and massage using steamed herbs and heat to relieve problem areas. Heady fragrances combine deliciously with geranium- and lavender-spiked saunas and tangerine-lemon salt scrubs. Packages include herbal scrubs, Swedish massage, aromatic inhalations and Finnish dry sauna.
