Founded in 1995, ArtPace owes a debt of gratitude to another Alamo City great: picante sauce. Like an economic godparent, the salsa not "made in New York City" helped build this premier art endeavor. Heir to the Pace Picante fortune Linda Pace turned ArtPace's location, a former auto body shop, into an internationally renowned foundation/gallery.

ArtPace's largest undertaking is its Artists-in-Residence (AiR) program, which hosts three artists, four times a year, at two months per term. The math is worth the calculation; the program brings in one international, one national and one regional artist for each stint. Once the chosen arrive, they complete a two-month residency, followed by a one-month exhibit; all work produced during the stay belongs to the artist. The program culminates in a Thursday night opening; these quarterly events are not to be missed.
