this place suxs!!! the food is poor quality. i ordered the 3 pc chicken and when i recieved it, it was dry and tasted old. and the mash potatoes tasted even worse. i think they keep re-using the food that has been left over for days. my son had the hamburger and it didnt taste fresh he actually spit the food out so we left and before we did i tried to bring it up to the snoby cashier. that totally blew me off.. never again. please do not eat here. there are much better place then this dump.....
not good. found a beard hair on my food an i went to return it an they just laughed it off they said the hair was free!i don't think thats funny!!!

Not Impressed!.
NOTE: ex-employee
After leaving the Malt House my outlook on the resturant has totally changed. I was completely grossed out at the unsanitary conditions that take place in the kitchen! The roach infestation, drove me crazy. They were every were; in the ice, fridge, stored foods & soda machines.
I got along well with my ex co-workers and we all knew about the problems...& so did the owners.
Rainy days were bad. Constant leaks would not stop...
its sad that tis is one of San Antonios most known and oldest restruant. I hope they change for the better and for thire regular customers.
Best Old School San Antonio Eats. Im in my mid 30's and grew up going to Malt House. My family grew up in the West Side and the Malt House has always been a place to meet. I now live in San Diego,Ca. everytime im in San Antonio, I make it a point in my visiting to go with family/friends to The Malt House. Best Double cheese burgers around. I usually order my "USUAL" which is double cheeseburger/everything on it/ fries/ and A Big REd. Where else can a group of 4 eat for about 20$? In this day in age, Nowhere! The service is great, people are friendly, dont go to the bathrooms if you dont have to. Its always cool to walk out of the place happy and full and still be able to buy a Go Spurs Go shirt or a Dallas Cowboys hat from some dude that has been selling bootlegged merchandise on a piknic table for a long time now. Two Thumbs up for the Malt House!
Burgers, fries and a strawberry malt- great prices, family friendly, and excellent customer service. A must try if you are ever visiting San Antonio! Every time our family visits we must make a pilgrimage to the Malt House! Thick and tasty malts, and great burgers! I have not found another place that measures up to the Malt House. It is not upscale or fancy, but is a relaxed come as you are atmosphere. The locals have known about this place for years and even though a Sonic's was built not too far away-customers are still loyal to this place.
It was everything everybody said it was!!. We at down and ordered lunch from our friendly waitress. She hurried back with our drinks and complimentary chips, salsa. They went a little crazy with the orange sponge paint on the walls but it gave the place character and it looked like they had fun doing it. The Christmas decorations were still up with these paintings that made me think of how Norman Rockwell might have seen San Antonio in the 50's. The waitress brought my 1/2 lb. burger, fries and a drink. He got the BBQ sandwich, a basket of onion rings and a drink. We each got chocolate malt. We got all this for $11.00 without having to stand in line, have the order screwed up or having food microwaved before being crammed into a bag! I highly recommend the Malt House to those who want good amount of great tasting food at an excellent price.
Eating at this spot bears a striking resemblance to scuffing down a burger at a reunion..
The Scene
In the main dining room, children careen around family-filled tables at warp speed with the ease of Pac-Man (whose video game is conveniently housed behind the jungle of quarter-eating super bouncy ball machines). The space is always packed, and adult conversations mingle with the wails of the pint-sized patrons. But the Malt House has a major one-up on most family gatherings: You guessed it--the malt.
The Food
Thick and definitely not liquidy, on first glance the malt looks suspiciously like a regular big, fat dollop of ice cream. Wait ten minutes. Eat your cheeseburger (the juicy, two-patty variety with french fries or mashed potatoes for $2.34) instead. Only then turn your attention to the malt--by now things should be sufficiently melted to allow ample mixing of the ice cream and malt flavoring--your patience will be duly rewarded.
FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER ....
FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER THE MALT HOUSE HAS ALWAYS BEEN GOOD FOOD AT A GREAT PRICE. I REMEMBER WHEN AS A KID MY DAD WOULD BUY LUNCH ON PAYDAY AND WITHOUT FAIL IT WAS ALWAYS THEIR EXCELLENT CHICKEN OR THEIR HAMBURGERS.
TODAY, I LIVE OUT OF TOWN, BUT, WHEN I DO GET A CHANCE AND GO HOME IT IS CERTAINLY NICE TO KNOW THAT THEY HAVE REMAINED THE SAME (EXCEPT FOR PRICE FLUCTUATIONS AND EVEN THEN THE PRICES ARE EXTEMELY REASONABLE).
THE ONLY BAD EXPERIENCE I REMEMBER ABOUT THE MALT HOUSE IS WHEN MY BROTHER BORROWED MY BIKE TO BUY SOMETHING THERE AND WHEN HE RETURNED THE BICYLCLE HAD BEEN STOLEN.
