Tips for Johnny's Mexican Restaurant

Friendly Service, Clean. I went to Johnny's with the reviews from citysearch in mind about eating goat, Unfortunately the sogginess of deep fried items ( nacho chip appetizers and my son's order of tacos) and the fact of watching out for bone fragments when biting the goat made it an unpleasurable eating experience. In laredo and surrounding area restaurants, I've had the option of requesting Goat meat intact on limb, ribs or head to avoid biting bone fragments, but I didn't have that option at Johnny's.

Need to upgrade Johnny's Mexican Rest.. I don't understand why when looking for GREAT mexican food/or restaurant, Johnny's isn't listed. Johnny serve REAL MEXICAN FOOD. You have not eaten MEXICAN FOOD, until you have eaten at Johnny's Mexican Restaurant or Johnny's Seafood Restaurant. I was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. I have travel from AK to WA., and I have eaten at all kinds of Mex. Rest.'s. Believe me when I say that, "Coming back to TX, and going to Johnny's is worth it all. I LOVE JOHNNY"S RestaurantS. (I am not a Mexican American)

One of the better examples of the family-run joint -- with the added attraction of tasty goat.. He's Got Your Goat
Nestled in the neighborhood formerly known as Snake Hill (between the southern edge of Fort Sam Houston and I-35), Johnny's has earned a statewide reputation for their house specialty--tender cabrito al pastor. Johnny's is prepared using owner Juan Espinoza's multi-step recipe--marinated, then slow-simmered, then quick fried and slathered with ranchera sauce. The final result is wonderfully flavorful meat that balances moist and crispy textures in a single bite. But never resting on the quality of one dish, Johnny's also excels at all the Tex-Mex staples that ensure repeat customers.

Ample Atmosphere
As for atmosphere, things couldn't be brighter. The chairs and booths are vivid green vinyl with tables that would make a canary jealous. Framed pictures around the smaller dining area show owner (and obvious boxing fan) Espinoza in the company of high-profile fighters like Julio Cesar Chavez and Oscar de la Hoya. His inspirational message to the aspiring champs? Go for the goat.
