this place is awesome!.
I'm not sure what experiances the other reviewers had, but mine have been amazing all the times I've been there. Its a cute little place that has a lot of personality. There are items not on the menu that you can order, like the heaven and hell roll which makes your taste buds go crazy. the wait staff was very kind and helpful. I would definately recommend this p
ace. I already have to all my friends!
It's okay wounldn't go there again. It's an okay restaurant, the waitress was clueless she took for ever to take our order. The food was alright it's not worth coming back again.
Won't be back. Service was slow and we had the same experience with the workers all being at the sushi bar being loud and joking around while we sat there waiting for service. I ordered the lobster tempura and it was terrible. My friend, who is huge on sashimi , could not even eat her sashimi plate. She said it did not taste fresh and smelled bad. We left and paid( maybe we shouldn't have) without really eating anything. It was our first and last time there.
So so food, horrible people.
The dining experience at Koi Kawa was horrible. Upon entry we were asked to wait for a table, but then no one came to seat us for at least 5 minutes. I understand that a restaurant is going to be busy on Friday night, but they were majorly understaffed. We finally were put at a table BUT THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY AVAILABLE MENUS FOR US!!! A waiter finally came to the table with that deer in headlights look on her face, she was completely overwhelmed, which made us a bit uncomfortable. She got our drink order and wandered off (we still didn't have any menus), and finally returned after another 10 minutes or so. I managed to get up myself and snag some to go menus from one of the two sushi chefs, whom i couldn't help but notice were both drinking beer and taking sake bombs with the customers sitting at the sushi bar (at least someone was enjoying themselves), but after we finally ordered our sushi at least i had an explanation as to why we did not get our food for another hour.
The sushi itself was mediocre, the fish itself was fresh enough, but the rolls were very sloppy (i wasn't surprised since the chefs were so inebriated) I can't imagine that it's legal to be wielding those sharp knives while under the influence. The flavor was there but my rolls looked like they were partially chewed already. Also the people at the sushi bar were so loud and obnoxious and vulgar, receiving many a dirty look from the families sitting in the dining room.
Bottom line is that that place needs more menus, and a more disciplined wait staff, i don't know how many times a waiter cruised by our table while our drinks remained empty until we received our check. I will never go back there.
Best Sushi in San Antonio, great view and good service. My husband and I just dined here Saturday night. Immediately got seated and had a great view of the Park next door. Prices were reasonable and the service was prompt and helpful. My favorite was the special Sara roll, which was divine. My husband loved the tuna sashimi so much, he had to get a second order. We also loved the special shrimp tempura roll. Overall, an excellent experience. We will definitely visit again soon!
great food, horrid service.
Dined around 8:30-9pm. Food was very fresh and wonderful, no complaints. Service? What service! There were empty tables everywhere and still had to wait 5 minutes for a refill or 10 minutes for the check. Food also comes slow, but that is to be expected.. be sure to order a quick appetizer.
Overall? Meh. It's great if you need to waste time and want great sushi, otherwise try someplace else. Service just leaves a lot to be desired.
best and most affordable sushi in town. I eat there frequently and at various times of the day and the sushi is always fresh and delicious no matter if you get there 10 minutes before they close. The food, prices and service is always consistly good.
Watch out for car burglars. That's a bad part of town, and while parked there for 2 minutes, two people tried breaking in to my truck. I caught them in the act, and they fled, but after reporting it to the Witte Museum security, they said there had been lots of break-ins (thankfully since I got their plate number, I hope something happens). But so far, it seems the parking security is very bad, and the thieves did this at 10:30 in the morning in front of several people who were oblivious, right in front of this Sushi place, while we were trying to visit the Witte Musuem. I don't feel my car is safe there even still.
horrible fish. Go ahead and go to this place if you want to be sick. I have been a sushi lover for a while, and have been to other places in San Antonio, but I went here for lunch one day and had a salmon roll that made me horribly sick. Avoid this place.
Okay, but not great. I've come to this location twice, the second time only to see if my first impression was wrong. I really did hope for the best. The servers were pretty nice, although a little pushy. The prices are a little high for the quality of the food. I'd recommend Fujiya, Sushi Zushi, or Goro's first.
