The Scene – The flaming bowls of fire outside make the rusting farm implements that pass for decoration inside a bit of a let-down, but most diners are too busy chatting about their Bed, Bath and Beyond purchases to notice. Besides shoppers, the restaurant attracts a post-movie crowd and a lively happy-hour scene. – – The Food – Start with a cup of creamy yet spicy poblano chicken chowder, and you'll wonder why something as bland as clam chowder still exists. To continue the creamy and spicy theme, go with the popular adovo chicken pasta, penne noodles in a pepper…
very interesting chips and salsa...

I went here alone, and they actually didn't assume it was a table for two, which I appreciate.
The chips were weird- they mix salty with sweet, so be prepared for a surprise. I had grilled shrimp with rice and vegetables. The shrimp and grilled onions were great, but the asparagus was awful. It was like they left it in the bottom of the oven until it was black- it tasted kind of like charcoal. The dish ended up being heavier than I expected, because of a rather buttery sauce, but it was good.
I asked for mineral water and got bottled water- I actually wanted sparkling water. That's purely a matter of a waiter that isn't familiar with mineral water. They gave me a white chocolate tamale for dessert, which tasted good but made kind of a mess as the milk (I think) that had been frozen melted.
The prices were a little high for this type of food, but I liked it.
Oh and it was pretty much empty on a Tuesday night.
- Pros: decent food and service, nice location
- Cons: overpriced mexican food
Average food, mediocre service, above average prices

We dined at Canyon Cafe this evening and were somewhat disappointed. The restaurant was not crowded but the service was mediocre. We had to ask for refills on water and iced tea and the waiter was hard to find. The grilled shrimp tasted fine but there were only six small/medium shrimp on the plate, and lots of rice and corn on the cob ($15.95). The ahi tuna salad was also good but only had about two ounces of tuna, and lots of salad ($11.95). The chicken fried steak was below average. It looked huge, but when you removed the breading there very little stead. And, of course, it came with lots of mashed potatoes ($14.95). Do you see a pattern here? Yes, the servings are large but mostly 'filler'. I spoke to the manager and he said he'd have to talk to the cook. I wonder why they call him the manager?
- Pros: Good chips and salsa.
- Cons: Mediocre services, large servings but mostly 'filler', above average prices.
Good interesting food

We started going to Canyon Cafe about 6 months ago but stopped because the service was so terrible it overshadowed the great food. We gave it another try a month ago and it seems the service problem has been fixed. We've been a couple times since and each time the service was great. The mango chicken is a fav as are the burgers/sandwiches.
