Editorial Review for Canyon Cafe - Alamo Quarry Market – by Robert Macias
The Scene
The flaming bowls of fire outside make the rusting farm implements that pass for decoration inside a bit of a let-down, but most diners are too busy chatting about their Bed, Bath and Beyond purchases to notice. Besides shoppers, the restaurant attracts a post-movie crowd and a lively happy-hour scene.
The Food
Start with a cup of creamy yet spicy poblano chicken chowder, and you'll wonder why something as bland as clam chowder still exists. To continue the creamy and spicy theme, go with the popular adovo chicken pasta, penne noodles in a pepper cream sauce. For hearty appetites, Hannah's roasted chicken is basted in a mild but savory marinade and served over mashed potatoes. If you want a prime example of chef Ric Rosser's talents, don't miss the chile-rubbed sirloin, coated with seven herbs and spices. Finish up with a white chocolate tamale, a sticky candy tube wrapped in a corn husk.

We started going to Canyon Cafe about 6 months ago but stopped because the service was so terrible it overshadowed the great food. We gave it another try a month ago and it seems the service problem has been fixed. We've been a couple times since and each time the service was great. The mango chicken is a fav as are the burgers/sandwiches.

They have the best chicken fried steak I have ever had. The service was good, very prompt and the chips at the begining of the meal were a little different, but pretty good, the seasoning used was tasty and the textures was a nice change.. I would highly recommend this place.
Pros: good food, very yummy
Cons: the ceiling dripped a little water on us
