Editorial Review for Earl Abel's – by Paul Gannon
In Short
From the outside, it looks like a diner that was built in the 1990s, but was designed in the 1930s. But once inside, it's clear this is the real deal: dark wall panels and waitresses dressed like Bavarian beer maids. The menu offers good meat loaf, and many swear by the fried chicken. For dessert, try the rich and moist German chocolate cake.

First time for my newly wed wife and I to acquaint ourselves with what we thought to be a very well rounded eatery. We just received our sets of wedding pictures and we wanted a nice place to look at them and enjoy a well cooked meal. We ordered Tea and Coke and the waitress addressed me as if I was a child and told me that I could only have one refill. Ok- I ordered an appetizer so that we could snack while we shared this time together looking at the pictures. We also ordered chicken dishes. Within minutes our entries arrived before our appetizers! I explained to the waitress that this order of service is back-wards and she explained to me as if I was a child that the cooks had already prepared a lot of chicken earlier and she didn't want our entrie to get cold. and that our appetizer would be out in about 15 minutes.

I am sad to say, this is not you parents Earl Abels. It still has the originators name on the sign, but I would bet Earl would not be Abel to sleep if he knew to what depths of poor quality and service his restaurant has descended to. Six of us went for dinner. We ordered everything from a club sandwich to chicken fried steak, to grilled pork chops, to spaghetti and meatballs. We had wanted to order fried chicken, but were told they were out of chicken. That is akin to going to McDonalds, to be told they have no Big Macs. The first clue that this meal was going to go bad, was the salad dressing. It was as watery and thin as I have ever seen and flavorless. Then the food came. I guess it was food, I am not sure. The chicken-fried steak was over cooked and hard. The spaghetti had a strange smell. The person that ordered it said it smelled of Ben-Gay. (Personally I think she was smelling the waitress, who had to be seventy years old.) The club sandwich was no better. The bacon was old tasting, like it was cooked many hours before, and it left a greasy taste in you mouth. Now for the service! It was just as bad. It took fifteen minutes after we sat down, just to get our drinks. Now if they were busy, I could understand that. They weren't busy at all. We had to ask for crackers to go with the salads. We had to ask for dinner rolls which should come with the meals. We had to ask three times for a glass of juice, because the waitress kept forgetting about it. Then the fun began. The so-called excuse for a manager came by and asked if everything was OK. When we told him no, he just walked off. I guess he was just asking a rhetorical question. If you don;t want to hear the occasional negative feedback, then don't ask the question. What a waste of good money. I don't mind paying the better part of $100 for a meal, but this was not a good meal, either food wise or service wise. Do yourself a favor - don't waste your time or money at Earl Abels.
Pros: not to crowded
Cons: Lousy food - terrible service - uncaring manager
