In Short – Hand-painted lamps illuminate the booths, old Mexican movie posters hang on the walls and glowing neon creates a surreal landscape. Health-conscious professionals and self-conscious hipsters fill out the rest of the picture. While Adelante is known for its unique tamales, the chicken quesadilla plate is a worthy entree contender, as is the Southwest poblano enchilada platter. In both cases, the fillings are generous and well-seasoned.

I do like a few things on the menu ,such as Sweet Potato Fries. But with all the great Tex-Mex food in San Antonio, such as Taco Taco and Taco Haven why choose this place? The atmosphere is lovely, though.
- Pros: service,atmosphere
- Cons: mushy bland black beans
One of my favorites

Adelente is a welcome alternative to the ubiquitous generic Tex-Mex joints that dominate our SA food scene.
Reasonably price plates are made from healthy, fresh ingredients, are always delicious and never leave me feeling overstuffed. It is the handmade tamales distinguish Adelente from all others. Fillings range from traditional to funky with a selection that changes frequently.
Friendly wait staff - cute hippy chicks. Almost always one of the owners is on location and probably had a hand in preparing your plate.
Adelente has the look and feel of funky old school Austin pre-tech boom and is tucked away (hidden) just off New Braunfels. No credit cards though so pack some cash.
- Pros: Laid back, Great food
- Cons: No Credit Cards
Excellent Unique Food

I am vegetarian and look for low-fat, healthy food, and I hit the jackpot with Adelante. We were visiting from out-of-town and I found them on the web before we left.
It was worth the research. The atmosphere was more casual than I expected, sort of a fun, bright, Mexico-meets-college-student thing going on. Patrons ranged from a group of 60-something women to some spikey-haired tatooed young folks. And pretty busy for a Tuesday evening.
The food was great! Not just ordinary Tex-Mex made light, but wonderful original concoctions.
The waiter was amusingly bad. We were in relaxed vacation mode and he was cute and sincere, so we didn't get in a wad. It was well worth dragging him back to our table and making him add the chocolate flan to our too-hastily-presented tab. It 's a must-have!
Only thing missing was a margarita; beer/wine license only.
- Pros: inexpensive, fresh, original menu
- Cons: no hard liquor
