Decent chinese food for low prices. consistently good food, good lunch specials, and the food comes quick. a favorite of mine grabbing a quick sit-down lunch.
Eh.....
"Best chinese in the city- 2005 AOL city guide" proclaimed by a billboard on Broadway.
It may have been the best in the city 3 years ago, but it certainly isn't now.
My Girlfriend(GF) and I were seated quickly-the service seemed to be good. The problem came when we were seated.... The condiment tray was filthy, adorned by bits of what appeared to be old AND new food, as well as dried sauces caked on it looked like no one ever cleaned this stuff.
That horror aside, the waitress was attentive, and got our drink order quickly after being seated, and shortly thereafter our entree selection. The food also fairly flew out of the kitchen to our table-via the waitress of course. First came our soups and a pair of egg rolls... I ordered Egg Drop and the GF ordered Wonton soup. I thought the egg drop was a little thick, and it also had something I'd never seen in egg drop soup before.. I'm not sure what it was, I joked with the GF that it was a earlobe. heh...."Is this restaurant owned by a Vietnam Veteran??" I wondered.
She asked if I was going to eat it.. so I did. It was chewy like an earlobe, but I can only hope it was a mushroom and not a... well anyway...She said the Wonton was ok as well. While I was inhaling the soup(I was hungry!), the fried rice was delivered to the table, and shortly thereafter the main entrees. The serving dishes that the entrees were served in oozed sauces over the sides...not good. It was described as "gross." GF barely touched the soup, but moved on to the entree of "beef with musrooms." She mixed it with the rice and some soy sauce. Took a few bites, and told me it tasted like "BBQ."
I shoveled some of the congealing mass onto my plate, along with some of the rice. It tasted like any other chinese food to me, nothing great, nothing to go out of your way for.... I'll call it "tolerable."
The GF said this restaurant was "Disgusting." I felt our experience at Hong Fong's was def below average.…
Near the Witte Museum. Love their mushroom fried rice. It's awesome. It is mostly busy but service is always fast and quick. Has oriental curious shop inside the restauraunt that is interesting to browse.
Terrible Chinese. We had not eaten here in about 12 years and the food has not changed. It's as bad as it was 12 years ago. My egg drop soup was thick, eggrolls were greasy and tastless. The fried rice was dry and had no taste at all. We will not be returning again!…
It's the best!! Yum. You get served so much food and it's great for the price. The staff could be a little more friendlier but that's okay anyways all the do is refill your drink anyways. The cook is the one who brings you the meal...that's cool. The scenery is of course oriental as you would guess. They even have other cool stuff inside that you could buy and take home. Did I mention the service is super fast for dining in and taking out and the food is always hot!!…
