What People Are Saying About Boardwalk Bistro

In Short – Boardwalk Bistro's recipes may derive from traditional Mediterranean kitchens, but are frequently tweaked by owners Barbara and Randy Hunt. Lunch and dinner menus vary noticeably, and the price shift is significant as well. The Bistro caters to a mostly Alamo Heights crowd, but the unusual combinations mean almost anyone can find something on the menu.

Run don't Walk from this place

Run don't walk away from this place.
I took my mom out for an early dinner on Saturday. After we were seated our waitress came over and served us water. She did not introduce herself or tell us what the specials were that evening. After we place our order, the fun started. The appetizer that came with the chef's tasting menu had missing items, then came my my soup, well let's just say the first bowl was cold and the wrong soup. I told our waitress and she argued with me saying it ws the correct soup, she then grab the bowl from the table and returend with another bowl of soup and yes it was wrong too. The salads arrived and were the highlight of the night! Then came the main course.... Well I have never had a tough filet mignon (cooked medium) but i did tonight, not to mention it was cold and covered with beef consume (yuk) I don't even use steak sauce.. the potatoes had to be betty crocker, and the asparagus had so much salt it was inedible. My mom had the seafood relleno and two hours later had it again she got sick.
I called and spoke with the owner who was apologetic and wanted to know if we would like to come back and give this place a second chance. I tried not to laugh and told her NO........
Please think twice before going to this place it is not worth it........
Snobs R Us

A friend and I had never been here and thought we could stop in for a quick bite on Wednesday at 6pm. There are about 15 tables inside and another 6 or 7 tables outside. 3 tables inside were occupied, none outside. The waiter just looked us up & down and wanted to know if we had reservations. We did not know they were required, so the answer was no. He just rudely said you have to talk with Ann and walked away. In a while Ann appeared and just said, "We don't take walk-ins, we're booked". She turned and walked away. It would have at least been nice to at least hear, I'm sorry we can't accommodate you at this time or something like that, but total rudeness is uncalled for. So, I will make sure to stay clear of this shabby, snobby little "bistro".

Boardwalk Bistro=EXCELLENT.
We've been going for over three years when we first moved to the area. We enjoy the upscale menu and laid back feel, Patios enjoyable, especially during evening.
Always felt service is friendly from all the waitstaff and I like to endulge in their dessert menu.
My husband always picks different items from the variety in the menu with tastes for everyone.
Overall we need a place to go to unwind from our week and we have dinner and drinks during dinnertime. We hear lunch stays busy too.
It works for us, try em out...
- Pros: Food/Music/Wine Selection
Horrible Customer Service

I visited the Boardwalk Bistro on May 8, 2010 to entertain out of town guests. I made a reservation for 5:30 p.m. for a party of 7. I have dined at this establishment on several occasions for business and personal reasons and never experienced unacceptable customer service. However on this evening my customer service experience was unacceptable. Our order was placed at 6:30 p.m. however we did not receive our until 8:00 p.m. There were no explanations offered. When the food was served it was not served at the same time, so we did not begin eating until 8:15 p.m. Several customers that arrived after us received their food and finished eating before our food was served. There was no explanation or updates offered by our waiter Mark other than the statement "small tables are served before large tables". We had to ask the waiter filling the water glasses for updates on our order because Mark did not come back to our table. When we questioned Mark about the delay he offered nothing more than excuses. When we expressed our dissatisfaction and asked to speak with the owner, Mark sent the head chef over and stated the owner was to busy to see us. I know the owner was there because I saw her in the bar area throughout the evening. Mark did not offer any accommodations for the inconvenience other than dessert at 8:45 at night. The head chef was apologetic and offered a 30% discount immediately to accommodate for the delay, which is more than Mark did. However when Mark presented the bill, the discount on the bill was only for 20%. It was at this point Mark stated he should have charged us gratuity because he worked hard and deserved it. The question of whether or not a waiter earned their gratuity should be based on customer satisfaction not the waiters perception. When questioned about the error Mark informed us that the cashier didn't take off for the wine and he was the only one who knows how to use a computer in the restaurant. Mark offered nothing but excuses the entire evening. As a result of the error the bill had to be recalculated which caused an additional delay. During the conversation regarding the bill Mark was too casual and addressed the women in our party as girl and Hun as if we were children and he became argumentative. This behavior was rude and unprofessional. With the exception of our grandmother everyone at our table is a college educated working professional, so the issue was never about paying the bill it is the principal of getting what you pay for and not wasting your customers time. Mark is a poor representation of your establishment. The dining experience is not just about the food it is about the service. The service is what separates any establishment from it's competitors.
- Pros: Acceptable, good presentation
- Cons: Horrible customer service: rude, dishonest, unprofessional
Terrible Customer Service!

After looking through 6 restaurant websites, my friends and I chose to go this restaurant to make a special evening out before a Broadway Show. The menu looked great and came for dinner with big appetite hoping for several courses. I overestimated the service I would receive from such a high-priced restaurant. A couple of the party came promptly at the restaurant for the 5:30 reservation and the rest of the party arrived 15 minutes later. When we arrived, our table was not yet set, which is not too terrible but indicated unpreparedness. We waited patiently, got some water and soon the rest of our friends arrived. We ordered our dinner within a few minutes (around 5:50). The wine came soon, however it took a long time to bring the bread (very stingy on the bread) and the salad. We waited until 7 o'clock, super hungry by that time, had to talk with the waiter about our time frame. By that time we did not have our entree for 1:10 minutes and had to notify that we had to leave soon because parking for a Broadway Show takes a long time. The waiter assured us that the entrees will be ready in time. At 7:30 there is no sign of food, we were all starving. That was the final straw, we had to leave. For such an awful, awful, and awful service, they still charged us for the dinner plus what they brought, which was not satisfactory. As far as the management is concerned the owner lighted our candles at the table where we sat, thus she knew exactly when we arrived. After 2 hours of waiting, not only she did not come to apologize for the extremely long wait for the entrees, she charged us an astronomic amount for the dinner. If the owner has such an attitude toward their patrons, just imagine what the staff might be like? Do they care? I don't think so. If she took a little time to ponder the long-term effect of her attitude and behavior, I would have been a long-term customer instead of a customer writing this review. To sum up, great job on your website, the customer service is terrible, only HOPE to eat, and you may exit the restaurant disappointed, starving, and having to run on a high heel to make it to your show before the theatre locks the door.
