Understated elegance. This restaurant is the first place I go with clients because it has the highest quality food with excellent waitstaff, and is still comfortable - especially on the patio.
amazing!. Ate at cappy's a few weeks ago, one word-amazing!!! Spectacular service incredible food. Had the roast and it was exactly the way roast should be. It is a bit pricey but its completely worth it. Going back for valentines.
A wow for clients. A few nights ago I had to take out of town clients somewhere to let them see that San Antonio has great cuisine just like the big cities. We went to Cappy's and the scallops and steaks and salmon were great hits, and the one client who ordered the hamburger was overwhelmed! My clients were all health-conscious, but appreciate fine dining, and they were thrilled, and even called friends during the meal to tell them about it! I can't imagine a better way to show off the casual elegance that those of us who love South Texas hospitality have come to love and miss in other cities.
Laid-back American-style bistro fulfills the taste buds but drains the more modest wallet..
The Scene
Most evenings, Cappy's is full of demure old-money types sipping wine and discussing the recent '09 social events. With an Aspen-lodge look and one of the most sought-after patios in San Antonio, this Southern-centric bistro does not flaunt its decidedly upscale appeal. Quiet and homey, Cappy's is inviting even to those of us who are a wee bit more plebian.
The Food
Over the years, Cappy's has meted out success not through bold offerings but through expert mimicry of fashionable trends in American cuisine. Thus, Cappy's current menu offers many of the hyper-popular nouveau Southwestern dishes. Mildly flavored crab cakes and a field salad with tangy cilantro dressing prepare the pallet for a main course of tenderloin, well-smoked and gristle-free, or red snapper as fresh as found at any coastal restaurant. Diverging from the Southwestern theme, the Big Easy-inspired bread pudding dessert could use more pudding and less bread.
Marvelous!!!. Had a wonderful dinner at Cappy's last night! The ambiance was so quaint...the food, superb!!!! I don't usually order fish at restaurants, but ordered the pecan crusted halibut...it was so wonderful, as well as the rice and spinach that accompanied it. For dessert, the sticky toffee pudding was phenomenal!!! I'm new to SA from Houston and this is one restaurant I've found I will be going back to again and again!!
