This place is NOT A SUSHI BAR-FAST FOOD ONLY. If you want a fast food Chinese experience this is the place to go. From the way you are rushed to your seat to the way you are rushed thur your lunch.

-If you know your sushi, DO NOT GO HERE! The waitstaff is unaware of the sushi menu if you don't sit at the "bar". I ordered salmon skin which I have ordered at many places. I waited 20 minutes at lunch while the waitress went back and fourth to the bar and kept asking the same question over and over. This was the third time I had ordered the same dish with the same sushi chef had prepared it. Finally, after 20 minutes the chef came out yelling at me "WHAT DO YOU WANT?" What i wanted was someone who knew what they were doing. There are many places for Sushi around the city but, this is the worst service i have ever had. I then told the waitress that i did not appricaite being yelled at and she said "sorry that is how he is". OKAY?? But since the fast food departent is run by one owner and the bar by another, who do you complain too??

I like it!. I can never get my boyfriend to go with me; because its too far and little too expensive for him; which probably makes me crave it more that I normally would. But I like it! So do a lot of my friends do, too. I get the triple delight-chicken, beef and shrimp mix plate. Its hits the spot when you want better chinese food than some of the buffet or fast food Chinese restaurants out there. By the way-- I do like Chop Sticks and Fire Wok and Golden Wok, too; so that may or may not deter you from my preferences.

A MSG FREE RESTERAUNT. A really great place to eat. I didnt feel slugish after eating here nor was I hungry 2 hours laters like at other chinese resteraunts. KUDOS on the MSG free!

If your a sushi junki sit at the sushi bar -those ppl will help you decide from whats hot and whats not.

I especially like the dragon rolls.

the service is fast- available as well are private partie areas with your own personal chef- HAH-YHA!

great menu selections and you can always share your meal w/ ur party-so for dinner you get have to get seperate portions everyone can have a taste of everything- if you prefer-that is.

Great lunch specials and not to mention great dinner specials from 5-6:30.

hope you visit Formosa Garden in SATX

Don't bother. My pepper steak meal was more than $9.00 and it didn't taste great although it was edible. They don't let you substitute the white rice that comes with the meals for fried rice. You gotta pay an extra $1.50. The service is slow...we waited 20 minutes for our order to be take and the place wasn't even near crowded. They also wouldn't let us split the check among the 4 people in our party...they said they just don't do that. I had to pay extra for soup too...and omg, don't. Yuck. You might as well put corn in a blender and drink it. This place is way too overpriced and the staff is not helpful or friendly. My opinion: just go to Peng's China Town on Ingram.

If you love sushi, be sure of your wants.... ...because the waitress had no clue what anything on the menu was. She had no clue what the difference between sushi and sashimi was. If you wanted to have rice with your fish, she would've told you to get the opposite, which is basically fish-bait. My mother and I are almost sushi virgins; we were only introduced to it a year and a half ago...our type requires a bit of guidance. They wouldn't let my mother exchange her order, even though their employee is the one who screwed up. I then ordered Sesame Chicken so that I could share my sushi with her. The Sesame Chicken, I'll admit, was delicious, but the lack of service was a pain (we asked to have our tea refilled twice before someone finally accomplished the mild task about 15 minutes later, and the 'to-go' box took another 10 minutes). To make up for the plate we couldn't exchange, we didn't leave the horrid woman a tip. Jeez Louise, I miss Sushi Chi.

Fabulous experience. The best overall experience of the many sushi restaurants I visited. My father doesn't eat sushi, and he was able to order an excellent pu pu platter, since they also had a full asian menu. Granted, usually sushi served at a restaurant with a full menu of chinese and/or other cuisines spells trouble. But at Formosa, not only do they pull it off, but they do so with incredible taste.

I loved the extensive sushi menu that was just right in it's variety. Even Dad tried and liked several rolls.

Whether you are a true sushi lover that wants only some maki or nigiri, or just out for an excellent meal, this is the place to go. The top 2 sushi places in town, and the best overall experience for someone going out for sushi. Highest recommendations!

This is real sushi and sashimi!!!!. I'm at a total disbelief that this restaurant was not rated #1 or at the top of the list for sushi!!!! The best sushi chefs are here!!!! The tastiest and freshest fish delivered every Wednsday. Lemme tell ya the other sushi bars don't even compare or come close to these guys and I've been to the rest!!!! Service here is impeccable!!!!!!

Some of the most reliable Asian food lacks style but not substance.. The Scene
Formosa Garden has the sort of interior you find in hotel restaurants, but what it lacks in style it makes up for in substance. Families from Alamo Heights fill the spacious dining room, as well as date-night duos. Service is generally cheerful and efficient, and the food is always freshly prepared.

The Food
Possessing one of the more traditional Chinese menus in town, Formosa Garden offers the classic laundry list of numbered dishes, most of which can be ordered without meat. The aromas and flavors of delicate steamed dumplings and egg-drop soup with corn permeate the sterile aesthetics and let you concentrate on the food.

Tasty. Have dined here a couple of times and really enjoyed the food. Not your typical chineese food in the strip center type of establishment. A nice setting for some really good food. Service has always been good, and we have enjoyed coming here numerous times. If only it were closer to the house....
