Editorial Review for Blue Star Brewing Company – by Robert Macias
The Scene
The sprawling old warehouse covered in corrugated tin must look much the same as it did in its former life, when it was used merely for storing beer. A large outdoor patio overlooks the parking lot, while a small second-floor balcony offers a better view of the nearby San Antonio River. As one of the anchors of the Blue Star Arts Complex, San Antonio's first full-scale brewpub attracts an eclectic crowd--businessmen, artists and college students.
The Draw
Ales and lagers are the house specialty, and the golden ale and pilsner both demonstrate the brewmaster's exceptional skill at crafting smooth, yet full-bodied, beers. Harried office workers eager to make the most of happy hour will appreciate the King William ale for its rich, hearty taste and its high alcohol content. And there's always at least one limited-production brew on the menu for those who like to change beers with the season.

Insider Tips
The ExtrasThe tap-a-draft system brings fresh-brewed beer to your fridge. Make a small investment upfront for the required gadgets, and then simply bring in the six-liter bottle as needed for reasonably priced refills.
When to GoThe best people-watching occurs during First Friday, the arts open house held on the first Friday of each month.

I am really surprised to read such good reviews on this restaurant. We went to Blue Star Brewing company on a Friday night, thinking it would be really fun...being that it's a brewery and a Friday night. That was not the case...we felt as if we were at some family restaurant. The food was less than mediocre (don't get the smoked salmon pizza...no matter how much you like smoked salmon.). The inside of the restaurant itself was pretty cool, however. In addition, the waitress was great. It's disappointing because the place has potential, if only the food was better.
Pros: service
Cons: food
