Editorial Review for Little Red Barn – by Paul Gannon
The Scene
Looking more like a big red barn than little red barn, this place is decked with neon lights, and is easy to spot from Interstate 10. The inside has beams of exposed wood with the menu items and prices painted on the red walls. And the cowgirl waitresses greet diners at the door with salads and seat them immediately.
The Food
The kitchen churns out giant steaks cooked to order--a sign outside boasts that more than 1,000 steaks are served each day. The filet is as tender as can be and lightly seasoned. The Prime Rib is a little tough, but holds its own as one of the most flavorful cuts.

My family has eaten at Little Red Barn Steakhouse for over 20 years. On our last visit we, we had the worst service. As is the typical protocol at this restaraunt, when you arrive and are seated you are given a salad. We waited 15 minutes before our waitress, server #10, Rosalinda came and took our beverage and food orders. By that time we had finished our salads. (We also noticed that she took the order of a family that arrived after us!) Additionally, she rushed to take our orders and was rude. When she returned with the bread rolls, she did not pick up our empty salad bowls and instead placed the basket of bread rolls on top of the salad bowls and left an almost empty pitcher of tea. When our plates arrived, side items were placed on the wrong plates and we ended up switching them out ourselves. Finally, she never came to check on the table or refill our drinks; she simply left the receipt on the table. Needless to say, she did not recieve a tip from our $60 bill and we voiced our complaints to management, they shrugged it off as "we were really busy tonight." Hence, the writing of this review. Be advised of the poor service!
Pros: Very casual
Cons: Poor service, rude waitress

You can't go wrong at the Little Red Barn. Wonderful environment, especially for large groups or noisy kids. It's cute to see the waitresses, some of them pretty plump, proudly wearing their little cowgirl uniforms. All of this however, is just icing on the food. place is unpretentious, comfortable, and the food is great.. I always order the chop steak, well done, with fries. I love the thick, golden crispy (never greasy) fries. The place gets packed and the family that owns the place loves owning the place and thus takes pride in the quality of their restaurant. If you are into liver and onions, this is probably going to be the BEST liver and onions you'll find in San Antonio (according to my usual dinner companion). Margaritas are small, but strong, definitely worth having. Unlimited bread brought to your table, delicious with the Land O Lakes real butter on the table. Name-brand condiments at every table, and plenty of tea refills (they usually leave a pitcher at your table). If you haven't been there before, a word about the location because newbies often get lost. You take IH10EB (towards Houston) and get off on Pine Street Exit. Then turn right at the stop sign and go down two blocks and you'll see the Little RED Barn on the right side. Enjoy!
Pros: Unique, Fun Environment, Solid Menu and Portions, Very Satisfying
Cons: Gets Packed, Bathroom is Small, Location in
