The Food – Torres Taco Haven has been a favorite family-owned southside hangout and breakfast spot for decades. Reliable homemade dishes include traditional caldo and excellent, though oily, gorditas. The small, friendly interior is set up cafe-style, and hasn't changed since opening. True to the southside aesthetic, religious – art and Spanish-language homilies festoon the walls. – – The Scene – Until recently, Taco Haven was a strictly neighborhood affair, with local poets and prophets from the nearby art-chic King William district dining…

worth the drive

by lizinftworth

This restaurant is awessome the beans and tortillas tase like they came out of my mom's kitchen, I have never had to wait for a table more than 5-10 minutes, I live in fort worth and would drive well over 4 hours for a barbacoa taco, My father in law introduced me and my husband to the restaurant a few years ago and I have been craving it on a weekly basis ever since. Another awesome place to try if you like torres restaurant is Paloma Blanca on Flores street, as a matter of factwe're planning our next trip around it's restaurant hours as we will passing through San Antonio on our way down south.

  • Pros: Awesome Barbacoa
  • Cons: Get there early they do tend to run out some mornings.

Overrated, unless you haven't eaten for a week.

The service here is fine, the food is cheap, and the portions are more than hearty. However, I don't really care for this place. When I ordered tacos, I thought I'd get little tacos with chopped up cilantro, salsa, and onion. Also, I thought there's be good salsa on the table. None of the above happened. The house salsa was way mediocre. And when the tacos came, oh my god, there were just HUGE quantities of bare meat inside of (an admittedly tasty) flour tortilla. It was over the top. I had ordered three tacos because I was really hungry, and I thought the tacos would be small. I could barely finish one, and I took the other two home to my dog. On top of everything else, the meat just wasn't all that. There are much better places in San Antonio--try El Mirador or Cascabel's in this same area. Or, if you are really after good tacos, go out to Guajillo's.

  • Pros: Huge portions if that's what you want
  • Cons: No real pizzaz in the food

Great neighborhood place. Inexpensive and friendly. A bit of a wait, but like the old saying goes, it's well worth it
