Mediocre cafeteria food at upscale restaurant prices. This was my first visit to a Luby's. For years I had heard about it when I lived back east, and then I moved to San Antonio and saw this restaurant as I drove by. I stopped to have dinner and was completely thrown by the prices. Twelve-dollar entrees for small portions of fish, for example. I chose a "lesser" entree and two side veggies and a drink, and I wound up paying $25 -- for CAFETERIA food. I could have gone to Olive Garden and done better. And the food was just -- eh. Maybe I would have felt better about the price had the food been delicious, but it was barely passable. I'll not be back. So much for the Luby's reputation back east. I'm alerting my friends who may be coming this way.

Goodnight Luby's. Nothing stays the same and Luby's is a prime example of that old adage. I have eaten there three times in 6 months and only because I had a gift card. This helped me afford the overpriced low quality meals. What a lovely place Luby's once was with high quality food and extensive variety. What it has become is not even a shadow of its former self. The Luan concept is really a joke. I will not tip the so-called waitresses there when I have done the work and can get what I need myself. It is evident to me that the management/owners do not care for the patrons by charging the ridiculous meal prices. Goodbye Luby's. You were once great.

Questioning the quality?. Just left your business on Blanco and 1604. For the third visit to a Luby's in San Antonio I was not able to have the meal I was looking forward to. Two old standard items were not available. Started to leave but opted to go through the line. Didn't find much that looked appeitizing. Had a cheese steak, cabbage, potatoes and a roll. Potatoes, hot cabbage, cold and entree cold. Spoke with Mark the manager, listened to his reasons fo the menu not being up to standard and was given a number to call. Called that number and spoke to the girl at the cash register. She didn't have a clue and offered an 800 number. Why would a manager give you gthe number of the cafeteria you were in if you were looking for answers from management. Long and short, I dont think I will waste my time and money with Ludy's in the future. Hope you have better luck on your visit.

Horrible place to eat!. My husband and I stopped into Luby's for lunch after hearing about it from friends of ours. The food was terrible neither of us ate much of it. The sides are cheap and greasy and disgusting. For two people it was $40!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was insane!! I paid less at the Outback a few weeks ago. Their prices are not comparable with the food. This is a terrible place to eat I would not reccomend this to anyone!!

Hit or Miss. Having eaten here severals times over the last couple of years, the quality is spotty in my opinion.

Food can be cool or lukewarm and some items

seem to have stayed on the serving line too long.

The quality of the food should be more in line with

the prices that they charge.

San Antonio original for those funky moods when the only thing that will satisfy is a little bit of everything.. The Scene
For families, there are thoughtful touches, including specially priced kids plates. And small ones seem to love to ride in the rolling highchairs along the cafeteria line, taking in all the action. There are oversize bibs, and the nice ladies are quick to refill your drinks and provide Styrofoam containers to take leftovers home.

The Food

Both kids and old folks love Luby's. Catering to an older clientele that has become health conscious, Luby's serves fresh fruit and salads, sugar-free Jell-O and puddings, broiled fish, roasted meats, some steamed vegetables and smaller food portions on the bargain-priced Luann platter. (They'll give you the calorie breakdown upon request.)

Wonderful place!. I live in New York City now (6 years, and 5 years in New Orleans before that) and oft long for the simple comfort offered by Luby's. It's just a cafeteria with solid food.

NYC, dispite the best dining in the USA, has NO cafeterias. It is a shame.

Each time I am home, I make sure to dine at Luby's at least once. The restaurants are really a simple treat. A quick reminder of what it was like to dine with my grandmother.

The ladies pushing iced tea around in the unchanged poly uniforms is eye candy.

The fact that some people are too good for Luby's, just improves the crowd inside. I love Luby's because I have been dinning there for 25+ years and it is (to me) a part of the San Antonio fabric.

Bad value No comfort. Dont go their. Its not worth it. Its self service cafeteria style, so why the prices are so high, it your guess as good as mine. The food is bland with nothing special. Better to get a tv dinner.
