*** GET A NEW MANAGER/OWNER!!!!***
Luther's is the worst place. You will be over charged. – Me and my mother and some of her friends went to Luther's tonight. We ordered our meal. When my nachos arrived they were cold. When I first arrived, I ordered sweet tea. I don't know what happened but by the time the waiter brought me refills my tea was unsweetened. It was terrible. You would think things could not get much worse but it did. When the waitress brought the bill, she put all the orders on one bill. I don't know what she was thinking it was obvious we had individual orders. She had to separate the orders. Here is where the nightmare begin. She got the orders all mixed up. We all had our own credit card she put the wrong charges on the credit cards. She over charged everyone. Well to correct the over charges the waitress had to collect everyones credit card remove all the charges from everyones credit card and re - submit the orders. But when she brought the the charge slips she did not bring the credit for the over charges because she did not do the credits. She charged everyones cards again. It was a big mess. By this time, I asked to see the manager. I had to ask to see the manager three times. When he finally arrived, I quickly realized he was the problem. Now keep in mind by the time the manager showed up we had been waiting 1.5 hours for the problems to be corrected. It was unbelievable. I told him it had been entirely too long and since they had not fixed the problem in 1.5 hours he should refund our money in full. He would not hear of it. So we continued to wait. It was during this time that another so called manager begin bringing everyone at the table shots. It was another 45 minutes when another so called waiter showed up with everyones charges applied to everyones account again. By the time we left Luther's it was 1am. He told everyone we would not know for 24 to 48 hours if the charges and the credits are applied correctly. It is my observation that Luther's does this intentionally. They count on people coming there and getting drunk as they over charge their credit cards. I am certain they do this all the time. It is the horrible management. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO LUTHER'S AGAIN. And I will certainly tell my friends about my experience.
Not even Nice Try – Haven't been here in a long time.
think I never will again.
Asked for a cheeseburger and it was suggested I order a "Route 66" burger since it comes with fries. I asked the young waitress if I could get onion rings and was told not with the route 66. Offered to pay a substitution charge and she said no deal. Fumed a bit and observed others being served Burgers with rings. Called the young waitress back over and told her I didn't care what they called it but I wanted rings and would pay extra. Apparently I waited too long because my watress said all I could do was talk to her manager. Really didn't want confrontation so wife & I left not wanting to meet manager of rude waitress.
Great Salads – I ordered the Salmon Salad and was quite impressed with its presentation. Full fillet of Salmon on a bed of mixed greens (NO ICEBURG! woo hoo!) the fish was med rare just like I ordered and the lime dressing was perfect. I also had a margarita and it was served in a martini glass with its own shaker... thats fancy!
Maybe we got lucky? – I visited this place last year when I was in San Antonio for the Rock & Roll Marathon and had a good time, so came back again this weekend upon my return to the City to visit a friend.
Even though there was a large party going on in the place, plus the patio was fairly full, unlike many other reviewers, we didn't wait for a table @ all. We were sat immediately by a waiter, who immediately asked us what we'd like to drink + asked if we wanted to order any appetizers to start. He even offered suggestions for both our drinks and food starters...
We ordered a basket of chips & salsa as well as a basket of fried pickles...+ 2 frozen margarita/berry swirls.
Right after the waiter left our table, another waiter came up almost immediately and asked us if we'd been waited on....so again...we didn't have any issues with our initial greeting/table waiting/drink ordering as so many others have made comment on.
It was almost perfect weather last night, it felt great sitting on the patio...we were @ a two-top right up against the fence along the sidewalk/street which made for okay people watching until the inevitable happened and a fairly intoxicated stumbling drunk came walking down the sidewalk and decided he wanted to stop and talk with us.
Food: The initial basket of chips and salsa were simply "okay" though none of the chips were very large...I almost got the impression we'd gotten the "last of the bag"...presentation wasn't attractive @ all....
The fried pickles were tasty. Served very hot, breaded nicely and with a nice size portion of ranch dressing. My friend has never tried them before and actually liked them, though I probably ate most of them...
The waiter did come by periodically asking if we'd like to order dinner, but after we'd finished off the pickles and initial chips, we decided all we wanted were more chips, but this time with queso.
The queso was horrible. How can u mess up queso? It was greasy and had a really almost gag-reflex consistency. We didn't eat it.
The margaritas were very good. Served in a fairly large cold mug. We had 3 each.
Wait Staff: Our waiter was good...he actually seemed to be more attentive while the place was busy...as the crowd died down, he disappeared for awhile and we did have to wait to get our check, but it wasn't annoyingly long...the only thing he did that sorta bothered me was he kept reminding us it was his birthday and pointing at a stream of money he had pinned to his shirt. Yes, we got the hint (give me money) but we didn't bite....although we did leave him a 20% tip.
Only a couple of things could have made it a more enjoyable visit. When the drunk on the street leaned over @ our table and started trying to talk to us, there were @ least two employees standing right near us and they did absolutely NOTHING to get the guy to move along...
Toward the end of our visit, our waiter brought a large group of his friends over to the table right next to us, even though the patio was fairly empty by that point. My friend and I were trying to have a nice quiet evening of conversation and this group of very early 20 somethings appeared highly intoxicated and very, very loud...every other word out of one girl was the F-bomb...it got to a point where I decided I could no longer talk over these people, so it was @ that point, I decided it was time for the check. Had he chosen a table to sit his friends not right up against us (remember, the patio was fairly empty by that point) we'd probably had stayed for another round.
Still BAD service. – One of the waitresses sat us. She copped a bad attitude after we apparently took to long to decide where to sit. We should have left at that point.
We literally waited 15 minutes for someone to wait on us. The table next to us had less patience than we and went up to the bar to get their drinks. The waiter that eventually came to their table actually ended up passing by our table three times with nary a word to us.
We finally left at that point.
That was the fourth and last time we went to Luther's. The other times we had slow service as well.
Disappointed – I ate here about six months ago. The service was mediocre at best and the only reason I ate the food was because I was so hungry at the moment, I would have eaten the crotch out a Ragedy Ann (Andy?) doll. Well, here it is, six months later and it is deja vu.
This time, the service wasn't /bad/ per say, just not good. Our server was a young and pretty boy, and I guess that is what most patrons visit this restaurant for. It certainly isn't the food.
I ended up with a plate of greasy nachos that was so cold, the grease at congealed at the bottom and edges of the plate. None of the other three members of the party seemed to have any issues with their food, but then, they were either stoned, drunk or a combination of the two. So, I guess that sums it up. If you are high or drunk, then by all means, Luther's Cafe will do. I'll never eat there (sober) again.
BAD SERVICE BAD FOOD – The first time I visited it was nice food was tasty! I thought okay lets go again this time with some friends so they can try out the food. I was SOOO EMBARESSED! The waiter brought out the food it was not ours set it down in front of us we explained to him this is not our order takes it back then bring backs the same food just added the missing ingredients to make it the right order. The food was just slapped together. It was just NASTY! We order a pitcher of beer. He brings it out and it has a white slug of film on top. We tell our waiter what's that he says oh the pitcher was frozen it's from that. We pour our beer and it tast NASTY. We realize they had used a dirty pitcher for pina colada and just pour the beer in it. I had to then take the dirty pitcher with the beer they served us to the bartender. Who sayed oh sorry and gave us a new pitcher of beer. I payed for the nasty food the dirty beer and vowed never to go back! SERVICE WAS HORRIABLE! Will not go back!!!! Just nasty. The kitchen cops need to take a look at that place.
Not worth it. – Decent food, but not worth the rude attitudes of the wait staff. There are times you wait more than 10 minutes just to give your waiter your order. (This was on a night when their were at the least 5 wait staff, and only 10 customers in the restaurant.) Unacceptable! I suggest eating elsewhere. The food doesn’t make the bad attitudes better…
Is there a manager? – I went to Luther's recently on a sunday afternoon with my boyfriend looking for a burger and a beer. After waiting 15 minutes for the beer to come, (it was not crowded) I got up and walked to the bar. I stood there for about five minutes and watched the bartender walk around in circles, avoiding eye contact with me, and then run to the back. Around this time, my waitress appears and tells me, in a condescending tone, to, "sit down sweetie, he's gonna be a while." I sat down, waited about five more minutes and then left thirsty. Bummer. We live in the neighborhood and won't be going back.
