Vast, flat, oversized patties overflowing with cheddar cheese are the stars at this San Antonio classic -- but I prefer the burger, so brown and salty, with just some american cheese. Whatever you get, you haven't been to SA without a visit.
Great place! We had heard all of the hype around this place and it definitely lived up to its reputation. Great food, fun atmosphere, and excellent service.
Best burger for last 20+ years. I've never had a bad experience there. Staff is great!
Food is really good. Portions are very healthy. I paid what I expected for a good quality burger. Will make the drive for another round.
Best greasy burger in town!. Awesome burgers. Fun casual atmosphere. Eclectic place. A definite "must eat at" when in San Antonio.
Don't believe the negative reviews! This place is a gem..
What is with all of the negative reviews on CitySearch?! Are all the cyberbullies in San Antonio giving the ugly girl in home room the night off? Really people. Stop being miserable and mean, and stop trash talking people and businesses that have done nothing to you.
Now on to the review.
Chris Madrid's is a one of a kind place. Not only do they have one of San Antonio's best burgers, it has a very cool atmosphere. It's so refreshing to go to a true San Antonio establishment, with so many chains popping up around the city. It's the perfect place to relax on the patio with friends enjoying a burger and an ice cold beer.
Over-priced food and rude waitstaff. It was average at best; The food was cold and had to be sent back, where I'm sure they just stuck it in a microwave, making it completely inedible. The waiter was extremely rude and so was his gay boyfriend manager.
Great Burger. The burgers at Chris Madrids are great. I hate the neighborhood that it is located in and the parking sucks but all in all it is a good burger.
Food isn't "All That" but it's Ok.... Quality of food is Ok. Its extremely hard to make a burger taste bad. This place is the tacco belle of burgers. Over all, low quality ingredients, very dirty dining area, and not enough parking. Enough said!
Hamburgers best in San Antonio???.
Ok I came to City Search to find a place for great hamburgers. Chris Madrid's was at the top of the list... so we decided to give it a try.
The first thing you notice is the place is in desperate need of work. The parking lot is an obstacle course (oh wait there's two parking lots!!) Then there are several entrances and no direction on where to go to order food. The menu is up on the wall and the place to order food is squished into a corner where you get your drinks. The restaurant has multiple sections and we had to ask someone for directions on where to go and what to do. Ok.. so atmosphere is low... but hey we are here for food. The staff is polite and friendly. The menu short n sweet. It was easy to order and pay. We ordered a Porky's Macho (bacon cheese burger) a small side of fries and two drinks. The total was $16.00. Then we went to find a table. We waited about 5 minutes and the buzzer thing went off. Picked up the food. 1st impression. Burger seemed huge and plenty of home made fries. Nice. We cut the burger in two, it was definitely enough food. The meat was well done and crumbly, reminded me of Freddy's. The lettuce was fresh, as were the tomatoes. The pickles were the right hamburger type. There was waaaayyy tooo much cheese. We took off most of it. Where's the bacon? two very thin strips of something that could have been bacon were on there.. so definitely not "Porky". The burger bun fell apart pretty fast after we cut the burger in two. We ended up eating it with a fork. The fries were good, not too salty, but somewhat soft and soggy.
All in all, it was good. Not what I wanted. I was looking for one of those thick, juicy rare burgers w/ swiss cheese and thick apple smoke bacon. This was not it. Was it good? yes.. will we go back? maybe..
Damn'd good. There is nothing like an ice cold shiner a greasy burger and a pile of fries to treat your taste buds to after a hard days work in the hot Texas sun and don't forget that music just makes it all go down well. I especially like that it is served of styrofoam plates and cups I aint got to worry about some under paid dishwasher messing up the dishes
