I am a repeat visitor and agree, it is fairly over-priced but I think the great ambiance makes for a nice change of scenery from the usual monotony of Starbucks. Definately a good place for one of those first dates that you don't want to meet at a bar! It's quiet enough you can hear each other talk, but has enough background noise that the people at the next table won't be able to eavesdrop on your conversation. If you are hungry, they have cheese and fruit platters, as well.
Parking- slightly difficult, shop is in an older section of downtown so if you go at night, it will seem dimly lit. Can park in front or on streets along side.
I would still recommend it to any one of my friends, and I do. It's cute, stylish, and a great place to go for a night out with friends.
Cozy sofas and clustered chairs are conducive to in-depth conversation..
The Scene
Feel free to take your meal outside to the roomy bricked patio, where cast-iron tables and chairs lay in wait. The patio is charming in the evening, when miniature lights twinkle and candles dance. Solo diners should prepare to be ogled.
The Food
One of the more diverse hangouts on North St. Mary's, Candlelight caters to a wide range of customers. The Coffeehouse is known for its luscious, rich desserts, fresh sandwiches and salads. Order at the bar from the menu listed on the chalkboard; in addition to coffees and teas, which can be purchased by the canister as well as by the cup, Candlelight also features a wine list.
Good Surroundings. Candlelight has a neat outdoor area with fountains, greenery, and even two friendly cats. However, the service and the general feel of the place seems to be lacking recently. The food also is overpriced; in fact, it used to be cheaper to eat the same fare not too long ago. Also, I'm disappointed by the portions. Although the food is average to good, the portions are much smaller. All in all, I would say this is a good place to go to once a month if you're a local. You go to candlelight when you want to sit outside admist the calm of a woods like atmosphere and sip some jo. The coffee is good and rightly priced!
Overall very average.. For a city like San Antonio, overridden with Starbucks, Candlelight Coffeehouse is a welcome change. However, I feel that everything about the place is boringly average. Yeah, the ambiance is alright, but the coffee and service are just like any other coffee shop in the city (Starbucks included). The hours stink and the prices are somewhat high. But, if you are looking for a change and sick of the norm, check this place out. I personally could take it or leave it.
Coffee Done Right. If you're looking for the perfect cup of coffee, search no further for Candlelight Cafe has it all. From a wonderful wine collection, to wonderful food, and the infamous Candlelight Blend of house coffee, this is the place for a nice quiet evening with friends or a romantic meal.
