Sexiest Bartender & GREAT coffee drinks!.... "I've been bringing my own coffee for the sexiest bartender,Christina,to make my fav winter mix,...an Irish Coffee. It's worth the funky, underground experience of a college-type bar/club complete with (almost) nightly entertainment. Bring yo java!"
Cool place, but....
Three months ago I went to The Mix for my first time and I absolutely loved it. It immediately made my top 5 bars in San Antonio. I thought this place has it all: good crowd, good music, good service. The place was packed, but the bartenders were attentive and they'd find me in the crowd to keep me happy. I've done nothing but sing The Mix's praises ever since. I loved it for all the reasons mentioned in the positive reviews you'll find online.
However, I visited The Mix two weekends ago and experienced blatant discrimination. I have never been asked to leave a bar. I've never made a scene and I always take care of the barstaff. This Saturday was no different. I was tipping well and enjoying myself with some friends. After an hour and a half of chilling and watching the Yankees game in the back room we were told to leave. No explanation was offered until we confirmed with the bouncer that we didn't fit the mold.
Now we weren't dressed up. We were wearing jeans and t shirts. Very casual as is the MO there. We weren't drunk. We had just started drinking so that wasn't the issue either.
Never have I felt such disgust for a local business that gives off the false perception of being an accepting and "eclectic" crowd. "Eclectic" in that you better look like every other person in there or they will throw you out.
It was the most offensive and ridiculous experience I've ever had in a bar in my 8 years of bar going. As a self-proclaimed beacon of counterculture The Mix put on full display just how much they don't understand the very ethos they promote.
Triple Credit Card Charge. Make sure you check your bank card/credit card statements. This bar charged me 3 times for the same amount. I should have only been charged once. I tried calling the bar during the day, but nobody answers. Not even an answering machine. If you do go to this bar - pay cash - not credit! I will never come here again!!!! They ripped me off almost 100 bucks!! Don't go! Also, the bartenders were horrible. They were super slow, didn't pay attention but to their "friends". I even tipped them really really good, cause I believe in good tipping, even if the service was crappy. And this placed reeked of smoke. Wow! I came out smelling like an ash tray X1000.
The Best Bar in San Antonio!!!. dis place is da bomb!!
Not as cool as it thinks.
Do you remember when those black framed glasses were cool? Long for those days of yore?
Well, put on your Allstars and come on out! Our rude doorman will welcome you with a scowl.
Get some Dr. Scholl's in those Chuck Taylors 'cause you'll be standing all night.
Looking for a place to meet hip young people? Well..... o.k., hipsters with issues. Then this is your place.
To say this bar is original is like claiming the K.F.C. on your block is the only place to get chicken.
I will say the 2 female bartenders were great, fast and cuter than the vast majority of patrons.
I cannot rate the quality of music since I haven't seen ALL the bands that play @ Mix. I will say, of the bands I've seen..... Wow! I did not know people still listen to that.
At ease on your knees haters!.
Let me say this...the Mix has been there for many years giving my friends and I a chill place to hang and just be ourselfs. San Antonio is becoming cookie cutter haven yet the one place I know I can just be me and listen to some good music is THE MIX! After a night of concerts or hittin the clubs it's the perfect place to come and relax for the remainder of your evening.
To those who hate on it...well sorry maybe it is a regular's kind of place. So find some where else to go!!
Move on. It's a neat place, if you're into looking just like every other frigging person in the joint. And the waitstaff and bouncers are pr!cks, unless, of course, you like kissing @ss. Then they're your best friends. I was at the bar waiting to get my FIFTH beer after THREE hours and the waitstaff completely ignored me. I was and am more coherent than the majority of the people in there, and did nothing to warrant them not serving me. But, alas, I walked away empty handed. And a good friend of mine, who is an enormous friend of the band and frequent patron, got kicked out for doing nothing more than headbanging and holding up a pitcher. I'm sorry, but when the waitstaff and bouncers start playing favorites and acting like babysitters rather than people providing a service, something has gone wrong. There's a big difference between people having a good time and people getting a little too roudy. Apparently, The Mix would prefer neither happen in their establishment. If you want to fall in line and look cute like all the rest of the dipshits holding their devil horns in the air, then yes, this is your place. But I'm afraid I've spent my last minute and last dollar in The Mix.
Rude Service. Don't even bother trying to call to figure out minimum age limit! My friend and myself called three times and had the person at the club hang up each time. All we wanted to know is if she could get in seeing as she is 18. Very rude service! I don't recomend it.
Great Place for Regulars. The Mix is an awesome bar to be on St. Mary's strip. It's the happening spot for a lot of after club regulars. The have great pitcher specials and pretty good pricing on specialty drinks. The atmosphere is pretty smokey, but is fun to relax in most areas of the bar. The Mix is definately a place you go with a group of friends who want to talk and hang out. It's not the dancing type bar, and space is limited.
Youthful, funky vibe with occasionally good live music mixed in..
There's not much to the Mix, but for some reason, the locals come running. Maybe it's the loud music, maybe it's the overcrowded pool tables or foosball, maybe it's the fact that the drinks are cheap. The bar stays packed to the limit most weekend nights until last call, when the clientele is booted out onto the curb to mill around for a while under the martini glass sign before finally dispersing.
