Great pool hall, average bar.. Great pool hall, tables are plentiful and cheap. Bar doesn't take credit card, but has an ATM with high surcharges next to bar to get cash(pet peeve of mine). Beer was decently priced. Bartender that night wasnt very friendly.
A place to shoot. Banana's is a place to shoot pool, enjoy good classic music and watch the game. Although their TV's aren't big screens, it is still an enjoyable atmosphere. The place is filled with regular pool players and have pretty decent pricing. It's much different from Fast Eddie's which is a mainstream pool hall filled with new music and unappreciative youngsters.
Pool playing is taken very seriously at this friendly local favorite..
The History
In the back room of Banana's pool hall, next to the photos of all-time great pool champions, you'll find a 1994 Pool and Billiards Magazine article highlighting Banana Rodriguez. The article, entitled "Legends of the Road," catalogs Banana's adventures, beginning at the ripe old age of 19. Banana's never played the championships; never won the trophies, so what does he have to show for beating the best more often than not? Well, he has a fine billiards establishment where those serious about their pool playing congregate.
The Skinny
There's a friendly staff, a nice spectator's bar, and some fine equipment. The drinks are reasonable, and the burgers are great. On Wednesday and Saturday nights, Banana's has a 9-ball tournament, and women always play free pool. Looking for something different? Banana Rodriguez built it right here in San Antonio, 25 years ago.
