Poor food experience.
We had guests from out of state in town and they had heard about La Fogata, We really wanted to go Rosario's but decided to go here instead. Big mistake. The food was mediocre at best, which is not good in a town like SA. The shrimp nachos were completely soggy when they came to the table...You had to eat them with a spoon. My guests had enchiladas and they didn't even hardly touch them because they were so bland. Perhaps at one time La Fogata was a great food establishment, but obviously not now.

IT IS NOT GREAT AS I HAVE EXPECTED.
We were searching the best Margarita in San Antonio so we decide to give La Fogata a try. We asked for an outdoor seating and ended up seated in a place covered with a big tent which I do not consider outdoor. We had a very attentive waiter, the salsa was good and the food came out piping hot. We ordered the Top Shelf Margarita which was good but I have better elsewhere. For meal we had the Picadillo Enchiladas and Chile Relleno with Beef Picadillo. The Rice, Borracho Bean and Chile Relleno are all very bland. The enchiladas are average. The food is kind of pricy. We will continue our search elsewhere. By the way we prefer Rosario’s on S Alamo Street than La Fogata.

I really expected more from this restaurant..
My actual rating would really be about 2.5 stars--mainly for atmosphere and service. We had a group event (about 18-20 people) at this place so I got the opportunity to eat at this place for the first time. When you enter this place--you really feel like you're at one of those seaside resorts with a restaurant. Very festive like another reviewer said. The place is very clean and there's a lot of space to talk with friends/family if you're waiting to be seated. I'm sure the outdoor seating is nice during cooler weather. We lucked out, because got their around 5:30p--before the weekend real dinner rush. Once seated--the waiters took our orders for drinks and food. Both came relatively quick--probably because the place was not yet crowded with people. I ordered a Chicken Quesadilla Plate, but it was far from what I expected. It was more like a chicken fajita plate with rice, beans lettuce and guacamole (like what you would get at Taco Cabana) and ice tea for $18.25 (with 20% gratuity 6+ people). This plate included one small tortilla with some chicken in it, a little bit of rice and beans and just enough lettuce/guacamole to fill a taco. That was it. Too much $$ for too little. There are other better places to get Mexican food. Don't let this place make you form an negative opinion about the quality of Mexican food served in San Antonio. If you don't care about the food (or want to save money)--you're better off going to a Taco Cabana and ordering a Chicken/Beef Fajita Plate. At least you get two soft tacos with chicken/beef, a good helping of beans, rice and condiments at two extra soft tortillas and a large tea for half the price and you don't even have to leave a tip. I probably won't be going out of my way to revisit this restaurant.

Good Mexican Resturant.
My family went to San Antonio on vacation and while there we ate at La Forgata Mexican Resturant. The resturant was decorated beautifuly. The waitstaff was nice. The margaritas were great!. I had the Polo Loco and the chicken was grilled to perfection. Will go back when in town.

never again.
The only thing this place has to offer is the setting/atmosphere...well, and the service was somewhat okay.
The food and drinks are EXTREMELY OVERPRICED for the quantity and the quality. Seventeen bucks for two tacos? three dollars for a tiny side of cheese? puhleeze.
I'm pretty sure San Antonio has better Mexican food to offer.

Wonderful atmosphere -- worth the wait!.
Took my family and niece for a taste of good mexican food. The wait was long but we were seated long before what we were told. We ate outside and enjoyed awesome margaritas -- the mango margarita is outstanding! I thought the fajitas needed some seasoning and my daughter's appetizer had to be sent back. The kitchen never did get it right but they happily adjusted our bill.
The atmosphere makes it all worth it. Next time we'll try chicken mole that other reviewers have said is the best.

The Best.
The best atmosphere, the best (and largest) traditional margaritas and the best chicken mole, what more could you ask for?

Mostly very good... only a few things not so good.
This is a pretty place to visit and to bring friends from out of town even if it's too hot in the summer to dine outdoors during the day. It's like visiting a little village! The food is always at least decent and even pretty terrific depending on what you order. Yes, the margaritas are good and I mean the regular ones that aren't full of the extra this and that, are good! Service is good. Its sad to read that some people have experienced otherwise. So, other than the hot summer afternoons, I think the chips are stale and this should be very easy to fix.

A San Antonio Classic.
This is where I bring people from out of town when they want authentic Mexican food. The atmosphere and staff are very welcoming and the food never dissappoints. (OK, once I had the mole and I didn't like it, but that's when I learned I don't like mole) Viva La Fogata
