Sams bad burger. Been going to Sam's burgers for a couple of years and always had a good burger but the other day we went and had the usual burger combo and the first thing we noticed was the meat smelled kinda spoiled, and tasted spoiled also, It took awhile to get our burgers cause they had just finished making some 30-40 to go burgers. I guess this is where the mistake happened. I think they took out so much meat that some or at least ours did get spoiled, we didn't complain, just ate a few bites and left, shortly after we both got sick, Probably will not be going back after that..
Used to be good, gone down hill fast!. Last 2 visits, the hamburgers are cold and dry as were the french fries. Don't understand what happened. It tastes like they are pre-cooking the meat now and just heating up for service.
Good but not Great.
After hearing and reading about this place for several years I decided to give Sam?s a try. I had their basic cheddar burger. It?s not the best burger I?ve ever had but it was OK. Places like Chester?s and Chris Madrid?s have better seasoned hamburger patties than Sam?s. Sam?s seems to rely too much on their mustard for taste.
The fries are mediocre at best. Sam?s seems to prepare and serve the fries almost as an afterthought whereas, at Chester?s, fries are made from scratch and are one of their signature foods.
If you are in the area (Broadway near downtown) you might want to give Sam?s a try but don?t expect to be served the best burger you?ve ever had. It will just be adequate.
Deliciously Entertaining. Thank you Sam's Burger Joint for a deliteful couple of hours. Sam's is definately a niche in San Antonio , residents and and paser bys should experience. Not only does SAms have the best burgers but they also have a great stage area for performers and groups to entertain. Great drink specials. CAll them for details.
Big burgers on branded buns are the trademark, but this joint also offers a variety of chicken breast sandwiches..
The Scene
Decorated with license plates and sporting a large working garage door behind the full bar, Sam's Burger Joint has the look of an old service station, but one that's overwhelmingly clean.
The Food
Half-pound burgers that spill out over the bun and cause the cheddar cheese to pool onto the wax paper are standard fare here. There's only one way to eat these burgers: sloppily. This is not a great place for a first date or lunch with the boss. It's more of a beer-and-burger-with-the-boys kind of place. Skip the appetizers--most are not homemade, and saving room for the massive burger is its own reward.
I can't believe I ate the whole ting. Probably the best $6 burger & fries combo I've ever had. Not as greasy as most other places that serve huge oversized burgers. very casual atmosphere with a wide diversity of people to look at. Bikers, Punks, Poets, Goths, Cops you name it everyone hangs out here. If you like to people watch this is the place to be. It also has a huge live venue attached to on the opposite side of the patio that runs live swing bands on mondays, poetry on tuesdays, open mic wednesday and all sorts of live music the rest of the week from punk to blues, it's awesome.
