A conventional Italian joint with a few unconventional touches delivers on scrumptious fare..
The Scene
It's hard to find charm in a strip mall. It's even harder to take cinderblock walls and a small space and make it appear larger, while still cozy and intimate. Capparelli's doesn't succeed in creating a romantic, dimly lit Italian haven, but it gives it a good try with the addition of bottle vases and red candles. Murals of grapes and trees are a nice touch.
The Food
It's a pretty good choice for food. Sloppy sandwiches overflow with fresh toppings, and pasta dishes are tremendous, especially with the accompanying salad and garlic bread. While there are only three pre-selected pizza specials, it's easy enough to put together a custom pie from the list of toppings. One mysterious addition--the bread, while truly delicious, comes with at least 20 pickle slices and no explanation.
No Way. Let's get out here and vote because the pizza place at this location is for sure not #1. We have tried it several times and the only thing we do like about it is the older woman that works there or did work there...not sure if she still does but think she is a family member. Told it was no smoking and someone was.....icee
yum. The pizza was great! and they have plenty of locations around town
Romes is better.
The pizza at Capparelli's is good, no doubt about it. However, it's fairly traditional and there isn't the variety and uniqueness of Romes, which is our personal favorite in SA. Romes offers some truly exceptional gourmet pizzas that you can't find anywhere else, and the prices are very competitive with the chain "pizza."
One thing that really irks me about Caparelli's is that if you have a family who can't agree on toppings, they unfairly charge you. Say you order a pizza with two toppings on one half and two toppings on the other half, the charge is for four toppings, which makes it almost $20 on a large. That's unreasonable in my book.
Simply simple and good. With years of experience, this resturant is family owned and doesn't use cheeses that taste like cardborad and crust that tastes much the same.
Great Food. I have been a patron of Capparelli's for over a year and I love the food and it is the best in San Antonio.
Def Not The Best Pizza. I would not recomment this place for pizza. I ordered a small veggie from here and it was horrible. It had huge crunchy vegetables with a uappealing crust. Well you have been warned so buyer beware.
Dazzasumakindapizza!. Definitely a gourmet type of pizza. Fresh quaity ingrediants made by the masters!
