If you drive up to this place, don't be scared away by the exterior, the interior is nice and the food is some of the best Thai in town. Their sauces are extraordinary and their is special care and time taken in the preparation of their food. Try the fried pork ribs, they are a taste sensation!
BEST GREEN CURRY. I cannot believe I just discovered this place! If you are ever off Blanco and 410 area please go here and try the green curry because it is the best. I have been to Thai restaurants all over San Antonio and theirs is delicious! The wait for my food was long, but worth it!
I like great food. Those of you that think this place has good food obviously have different standards. To prove my point, look at red Lobster. It is still in business. It is also disgusting.
I have been here twice. I will always give a place another chance. No. the second time was probably worse than the first time. Horrible and bland. I will stick to the great thai places in San Antonio and steer clear of this place.
1 of 2 Best Thai Places in San Antonio.
I can't believe i see any negative reviews on this restaurant. They all say "bland" and have similar prose, so I suspect its a competitor.
This place has terrific food. It's in a little hole-in-the-wall on Blanco, but the menu is great.
I usually get garlic chicken or angry ocean or one of the entrees and the "fresh spring rolls" in rice paper.
The food is well prepared and presented and the folks that run the place----a bit of a language barrier--but couldn't be nicer. I was hesitant to write a review for it because I would rather it not be busy when i go there--it's not the biggest place inside.
I'd recommend friends to eat at this place or at Thai Taste on Evers Rd, about 1 mile outside of 410.
Bad. Can't believe the good reviews. Must be owners or employees. The food is bland and poor quality. Much better Thai food in San Antonio.
Amazing Grace, how good is this thai! yummm :).
I use to live down the street from Thai Dee for about a decade, and every time passing down their restaurant I always asked myself "who could possibly want to eat there"? Of course, at that time I didn't even know what thai food was nor did I even care to find out what kind of food they served there, in all honesty I found that place to be repulsive!
Anyway, the very first time I had Thai food was at a place called "Thai Pikul" because that where some friends took me for my 21st birthday, and I really liked it. I tried their pad thai and I craved it ever since, I though it was a fantastic dish...
A couple of years later, I was waiting for the bus on Blanco Rd. which happened to be right outside of Thai Dee, my sister and I had to wait for the bus for at least an hour, so this was the first time I considered to acknowledged this tiny little place. Since i had loved thai food from the first time i had tasted it, I decided to finally give this place a chance. I wanted to know what it was all about. And after all, I did had an hour to spare...
I walk-in and their clientele looked very "upscale" which
caught me by a huge surprise! (in all honesty, I thought this place was going to be empty) If anything I felt a little out of place being there... and even though i was nervous, I was already there so I decided to go ahead and asked for their menu, the lady/waitress/cashier was very polite.
I immediately ordered their Pad Thai, which is the dish that I had been dying for! I also recommended it for sister who is your "typical" teenager... who some at that age are close minded to foreign food. You know, she's used to chick fil' a, sonic and junk of the sort, but I gave her my word that she would like it. (and even though i had not tasted thai dee's yet, I knew i was taking a gamble with what I had promised her). I also took a chance on their Thai tea while we were waiting for our food. The thai tea was amazing, my sister loved it... she was pretty scared to try it at first but she wanted more of it as she kept drinking it. And than the moment of truth... our chicken pad thai...as soon as i tasted it i was in Thai Heaven, no joke. I had forgotten all about my first pad thai experience and had replaced it with this one, like being born again kinda thing (lol) It was so delicious I have not even words to describe it. And my picky eater of a sister was hooked on it too, I'm glad she liked it because I'm always trying to get her to try new dishes, but she rejects them... not this time! She finished the whole plate. And even though it was so good, and I dreamed of MORE, there wasn't enough space in my stomach for it, they really fill you up and all for a great price.
When we came back outside, we realized that most of the cars parked outside were Mercedes and BMW's, and no they were not from costumers at at crappy gas station, they were all at Thai Dee!
After that day, I have made that place top on my list, I've taken 2 of my friends to eat there with me, I have ordered for the delivery to eat with my brother and sister at their school, I have ordered for delivery on rainy days for my own self, sooooo amazing! And recently I had talked to my Mom about it, we haven't had a chance to go together, but I can't wait for her to try it, I'm sure she is going to love it as well.
I feel kinda bad for all of those years that it has been taken for granted, I hope that it stays open for 10 more years at least, this is just the beginning for me and I want to enjoy it as much as I possibly can, thank-you Thai Dee, keep on that good work!
& I guess what they say is true "don't judge book by it's cover" well don't be fooled by their outer appearance, their food is 100% worth it and they are very clean inside, trust me otherwise i would not even bother taking this time to write this long ;)
Amazing food...the best Thai in San Antonio!. The best Thai food around. Although the location and exterior don't look that great don't worry....the food inside is amazing. Each dish is presented in a beautiful manner, the prices are extremely reasonable, and the staff is friendly. There are a lot of regulars who frequent this place. I can't recommend it highly enough!
aaammmmazzzinngg. I have been to thai dee twice and each time got the pah sa awee.... or somthing like that. Everything about the food was worth the drive ( i live over 25 minutes away) and the prices are great. I will continue to go whenever I get the chance. Those that don't go are seriously missing out.
Love Thai Food -- but not from here.
I just can't believe this restaurant got all of these rave reviews. First time I ate there it was "just okay". I ordered the Lemongrass chicken. A little on the bland side, chicken tasted like it was boiled. Thought I might give it another go, just in case:
So three of us from our office ordered a selection to share. The pad thai was good, except for the chicken. It had a unusual flavor as if it had been near spoiling before they cooked it. once again -- boiled, not stir fryed. We had the spicy basil w/ beef. After chewing a piece of beef for 3 minutes I had to use a napkin to get rid of it. It was obviously a cheap cut of beef with plenty of cartiledge that was never going to be broken down by human teeth. The last thing ordered was Red curry w/ chicken. Horrible, Not thick and rich like it is supposed to be. Very skim-milk thin with little to no flavor. We DID NOT FINISH OUR FOOD -- it was that bad.
I have eaten at a lot of thai restaurants because it is my favorite cuisine -- this restaurant is LOUSY. Do not go there.
Just tried this 3/27/09.
I tried this Thai place yesterday for dinner. I've eaten at different thai restaurants around San Antonio, and a couple in California. I started eating Thai around five years ago and have been hooked ever since.
I had seen Thai Dee during my drives to work and school and continued to pass it up because of the location and exterior weren't the most attractive. I'm glad I finally stopped in yesterday. I had the Pao Sol, a dish I have never seen on menus. It was ridiculously delicious! I also ordered the spring rolls which come heated but not deep fried, along with some kind of sweet honey sauce. Also really great, but too much for one person. The price really doesn't reflect the portions you receive. For example I'm 5'11" / 190lbs and I ate the entire Pao Sol bowl, with spoon and fork of course (I didn't see any chopsticks around.) It filled me up for hours, and in retrospect I should have only eaten half...but it was so damn delicious! I'll know better for next time.
I highly recommend stopping in. Don't let the exterior fool you. The interior has been decorated in a brown and gold palette with nice intricate table cloth designs. The chairs add nicely to the design and the paintings add to the overall color, style and culture. The menu system is straightforward and has a similar pattern to the overall style. I'm a graphic designer, I couldn't help but comment on the environment. I agree with whoever said this would be a nice date restaurant.
The service was exceptional. What I thought was a nice touch is that the waitresses treat you like a person rather than a number, and will give ideas on the menu in case you aren't sure what to order. Even though I'm pretty familiar with thai food, it was nice having a little interaction other than the standard "what do you want to order."
Great place, I will be frequenting very often since I live just down the street, will recommend to friends, and will take guests out to eat there. I noticed someone had said they serve no liquor they found that to be good. I on the other hand find that a downside since when I go out to eat I like to have a good beer or two...and no I'm not talking miller, coors, or bud.
One small note, whoever wrote the 1 star review was obviously trying to discredit the restaurant. Their comments were very unfair and I'm sure pretty much anyone will discount the one bad review in light of all the good reviews given.
Food 5 stars
Service 5 stars
Price 5 stars
Environment 4 stars (can't help the location, but inside is great)
