Editorial Review for Martini's – by Dawn Pomento
Knock Three Times
Just knowing the address won't get you into Martini's. You could circle the strip mall several times without noticing the small brass plaque that identifies the bar. On weekends the rows of cars give away the location. When the proprietor Wayne Harper recreates Las Vegas "Legends in Concert"-style vocal feats, it's difficult to find a parking spot out front or an empty seat inside.
Viva Lounge
Mirrors above the bar, faux guitars on the wall and a sign with red-outlined, clinking martini glasses above a faux fireplace set a very Vegas vibe. The only thing missing (thankfully) is video poker machines at the bar. Even the stage mimics a typical casino lounge, with silver streamers suggesting a backstage to the small area which accommodates the three musicians. It's barely larger than the dance floor, where couples of all ages cut a rug with varying degrees of skill and sobriety.

This bar is one of the most fun clubs I've ever been to. We go on Saturday nights when the owner, Wayne Harper, and his band take the stage. They sing 70's and 80's Vegas lounge music. Van Morrison, Barry Manilow, Jimmy Buffet, and every sing along tune you can remember. If you have a request, write it on a napkin, throw it at his feet and if it attracts Wayne's attention, you'll be singing along with the entire club! They only serve drinks and you might get a basket of popcorn. The place is smokey and standing room only by 11pm, and you won't mind a bit! The group we go with ranges from 30 to 55 years old and everyone can't wait for the next trip!
Pros: Any age group will love this place.
Cons: Get there early, or stand all night.

When I have friends come from out of town, we go to the Riverwalk first, then to Matinis. They all say that the first thing they want to do when they come back to SA, is go back to Matinis. The drinks might be a little pricy, but when you consider the entertainment is free, it all balances out. Great for b-days, anniversaries, shoot, any occasion. Wayne is ready to toast anything, even divorces. If it is Friday or Saturday it is Martiniday in my book. Don't tell to many people, as this place gets packed quickly. And remember, get there early and get there often.
