Editorial Review for Center for Antiques – by William Keith
Cool, Clean and Comfortable
You don't have to twist or turn to see the merchandise, blow dust off each item or strain your eyes to find hidden treasures. Instead, this huge 35,000-square-foot building is divided by four spacious aisles, well lit, carpeted, air conditioned and kept as neat and clean as a hospital. The white-glove approach might be a turnoff for some, but it also attests to the pristine condition of most items.
A Diverse Collection
With more than 108 dealers, the center offers a panorama of goods, including baseball cards and "Star Wars" toys, but the majority of merchandise is directed at serious collectors. Eight-foot-tall, hand-carved mirrors ($1,295), 1880 walnut bookcases ($4,800) and 1890 brass chandeliers ($875) are more the rule than the exception.

Insider Tips
Eat InIf you get hungry, there's a comfortably sized restaurant inside the building called the Broadway Deli, with plenty of seating.

This was my 4th stop of the 5 I made while antiquing in SA last week. Well, let me say that I have been here before and liked this shop a lot, but this time around I was a bit disappointed. Some of the good dealers have left, leaving some of the booths either empty or kind of just filled with an odd mixture of stuff. I did find a few nice linens and pretty (but costly) jewelry. Overall though, I got to say that maybe time has caught up with this location. It and the help seemed a bit tired. I would stop here again as I realize that malls change over time from good to bad to good all over again.
Pros: lotsa parking!, clean and presentable, nice people
Cons: kind of depressing, not as good a selecti

the center for antiques is probably the finest antique mall i have ever visited. the 2 anchor dealers, max mendlovitz and louis marshall, offer the finest selection of antiques and art in the building. both firms are basically 'mom and pop' operations, but don't let that fool you...these are first class businesses all the way. i would place their respective shops, fan-tastic finds and marshall's brocante, right up there with some of the best shops in the country. other dealers like the respected hugh lackey and jean paris offer a+ crystal, china, collectibles, and silver. beth nixon's booth will leave you drooling on the countertops over the remarkable jewels to be found in her small yet stocked space. if you can overlook the occasional odd or ugly booth, i guarantee this place will be well worth the visit. AAA+++
Pros: quality a+, value a+, selection a+
Cons: occasional bad booth, sparse help available, a tired concept
