My wife and I were looking for Asian food in our area and discovered a couple of internet reviews for this place. When we arrived it was daylight but it was so dim inside the restaurant that it took several minutes for our eyes to adjust. We were serviced promptly and the first thing that we noticed was that every item on the dinner menu was $4.95. We ordered our meal and then our eyes finally adjusted to the darkness. To our shock, we discovered that the place was rather dingy. The floor was littered with food, there was a dried noodle stuck to the wall, and the whole place badly needed a fresh paint job. I was tempted to just walk out of the place but we had already been served soup so it was kind of an awkward situation. However, when the waiter brought our platers we were amazed at the huge amount of food put in front of us. To top it off, the food was really, really good. At this point it was easy to rationalize the surroundings because they brought surprisingly good food and lots of it (we both had to request take-home cartons). We have both been back there several times since, ordered several different meals from their extensive menu and always love the food (and have never gotten sick - ha). One visit, the Chef inside the kitchen became upset about something and was screaming in Chinese at the top of his lungs for about 20 minutes. I thought to myself, "How nice, dinner and a show." We found it quite amusing as it really added to the flavor of the experience. So, if you are looking for something upscale, by all means stay away from this place. If you are looking for good food, large servings, very inexpensive prices and a primarily working-class customer base, this place will certainly fit the bill. It's located at the corner of Callaghan Rd. and Babcock in a small strip-mall. You might want to try it at least once for the sheer experience.

Pros: Large Portions, Good Food, Very Inexpensive, Prompt Service, takeout available

Cons: The place is just plain dingy and rather small.

China Star has some of the best chinese food at the best price in town! A little americanized but no where near the fast-food taste of some places around town. My family especially enjoys their Combination fried rice. I love their MooGoo Gui Pan. I like it cooked spicy and they are very eager to please. Lunch time is especially busy because you can get a meal (with iced tea) for under $5. Even their dinner meals average less than $6 unless you go with a seafood dish. My family of four can eat there for less than $25 most evenings. If we splurge for seafood dishes, average is $30-35 for family of 4. They also are very family oriented and the service is good. The waitstaff are not overly talkative but efficient and polite. The only con is the atmosphere and appearance of the strip mall area. Also, it's a bit small inside and no ambivance but hey, I got here for the food!

Pros: Food, Price

Cons: Location, Ambience
