Editorial Review for Longhorn Cafe – by Noah Sternthal
The Scene
If the hordes of two-foot-tall people don't tip you off that this is a family place, just sit down at one of the picnic tables in back, and low and behold--a playground. The service at Longhorn Cafe is decidedly rock and roll, and the clientele also includes a number of college students. It's the type of relaxed, easy-going place where you might want to hang around and have a couple of cold ones on the patio after you finish eating.
The Food
Finally an honest-to-goodness burger place you can go to with vegetarian friends. Garden burgers and whole-wheat buns, add a couple of salad choices, and you've got a vegetarian-pleasing menu. For carnivores, the options don't stop with the burgers: Frito pie, chicken fried chicken, and a slew of sandwiches also grace the menu, as well as kids' specials and a fair selection of beer.

I've been eating at this cafe since 1989 and I now live in Austin,TX . When I return to town for the holidays or business I always make it a point to stop in with family or co-workers from Austin.I always talk about growing up on this place and the atmosphere it has.Great food, silly music and the same witty employees. Over the last 10 years the changes have been great remodel, staff, the area has grown so much. The last few years I don't see the same faces, the attitudes have gone down hill, the place is a mess and the atmosphere isn't what it use to be. Boring food and the place was messy. After today I've had my last meal here after saying " One more chance" over the last few years. I even tried the new one in Universal City on the way to Austin with fellow workers. This was even worse. Bad service, the food wasn't made like I remember it being a few yrs ago.It was nowhere the caliber of food the Blanco location once was. It's a shame to see this to a once great establishment turn out like this. It seems to me the staffs and I guess the owners ,new maybe, can't keep up the old longhorn cafe way's of making once great food,or just don't care. Sorry to be the one to say so, but 16 yrs. people start to notice these things. I know I'm not the first to notice.

I started eating at the Longhorn when it was still a feed store and the Canyon Creek Country Club still existed. I have never, ever, anywhere found a burger close to theirs. The Jalepeno Cheese Burger is from another planet! Had to move to Mexico for work five years ago, return to SAT twice a year and never, ever leave without going by and eating at least twice. Chris who? You have got to be kidding. That's a joke.
