Super-good food!. I've been looking for Honey Walnut Shrimp in San Antonio ever since Buffet King Chinese closed a couple of years ago. Although Golden Wok does not have Honey Walnut Shrimp, they do have an excellent Walnut Shrimp, and I often go there to enjoy it. I have never been even slightly disappointed, either with the food or the service.
Golden Wok Review.
I was very excited to try the food at the Golden Wok after reading the reviews, but was quickly disappointed after first tasting the Won Ton soup, which was flavorless.
I ordered Orange beef, extra spicey, which had no heat what so ever. It tasted like unseasoned beef in an odd tasting ketchup. My friend's daughter ordered sweet and sour pork, which was significantly over salted,
The dim sum was however very good, along with the pot stickers. This part of the meal was great.
The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. She removed the offending orange beef off of the bill and was willing to try to make the meal a sucess.
I would recommend sticking with the appetizers and dim sum and not ordering an entree.
Just OK. Good for San Antonio but average for any other big city. They are pricey and once when ordering out they wanted a dollar for some ginger soy to take with us?!
Seriously addictive. I've been going to this place for probably over 10 years- delicious! Was a little hurt years ago when they had a menu change because a few of my favorite dishes were put to rest :( But the real reason I go back?? Their Hot and Sour soup is THE best I've ever had!! Don't know whats in there, but its completely different from anywhere else. Great! I'm salivating on my keyboard.
Best Dim Sum. Very authentic Chinese Dim Sum and a varity of choices; Sometime service is slow but the food has never been disappointed; You may have to wait for the tables but your time is well worth the waiting!!!!
DIM SUM!. I love dim sum on the weekends, they have a great selection and all of it is very fresh and delicious (from what I was brave enough to try... no chicken feet or tripe for me!) Very busy on Sunday afternoon so get there early or go on Saturday. I have been on the weekdays for lunch and like the lunch specials and have always gotten good and prompt service even when they were very busy I never had to wait too long (10-15 min) for a table. They have a limited selection of dim sum during dinner if you can't make it on the weekend mornings.
Fresh and Hot. There are very few places in San Antonio that serves Dim Sum and Golden Wok is one. I like that the food is serve steaming hot and fresh but it is very westernize. If you go at happy hour the selection is limited, you have to sit at the bar and order drinks. Service even at non-rush hours is very slow. The waitresses seem more interested in filling the sugar containers then taking your order or serving you tea. If you are going to eat here expect it to be a leisurely meal not fast and timely.
A nice fusion menu.
In Asian cuisine, this place is a safe bet. The food is good - a little too americanised but definitely nice. They have options in Chinese, Thai and pan Asian.
The place is kinda nice - good open seating, large TV, a good bar and a do-your-own meal kind of thing. The prices are higher. Service could be improved. they took me a while to sit and the guy waiting my table was unhappy when I complained about a greasy plate.
Very good food, spotty on service(m).
The Dim Sum on Sundays is the only reason I go here. It is VERY GOOD - close to being home made.
THough it is not on par to resturants in China Town in NYC, Toranto Canada, Seattle or Washington DC.
The service is the only reason we do not visit as often. It can be very good to very bad.
Really sad, since it has a great look and feel to the place.
Even with spotty service, we have continued to go here the past 5-years.
Since the start of 2007, they have hired new managment and waiters and it seems to be better - for now.
I would recommend this resturant to my friends and family.
If the service was more consistant, their rating would be higher.
Dim Sum is best in town.
I go there very often and am always pleased with the food, wait staff and overall dining experience.
The food is always hot, the dim sum is excellent and the atmosphere is relaxed. Start off with hot tea from the variety offered, have dim sum and my personal entree recommendation is the Chow Fun. I have never gotten bad food or poor service at this establishment.
