Bad service at Salsalitos on Nacogdoches.. I am tired of working hard for my money and then going to restaurants with bad service. My waitress was busy holding up a pillar in the building. I guess she was afraid it was going to fall on her. Did not get asked if I needed anything else until she came over with bill in hand and she didn't know how to make change. I work hard for my money and she needs to work hard for her money. Salsalitos needs to work on their customer service. In the hard economic times ahead people are going to think twice before going out. If it's a choice between staying home or going out to bad service I think more people will be staying home.
Good food! GOOD SERVICE!!!. I waiting about 10 mins for my table, and from there the service was very good. The food came out steaming HOT HOT HOT, and drinks were always filled. Our waitress was GREAT!
mexican food isn't about chz enchiladas!. There are not many smiliar restaurants located near Salsalito and that is probably why so many people go there to eat when they are craving mexican food! For those that do not like the "tomato paste" salsa, be brave and try one of the many other salsas such as green, roasted, or warm- they are less "pureed." And for those of you that are judging the food off of the enchiladas.. remember that they are simply beed or chz rolled up in a tortilla with meat sauce. nothing too special about that. why not try something more original like the house specialty- fajitas, or maybe one the huge chimichangas! When it comes to margaritas, you are getting what you pay for. $5 might get you a cheap house margarita made with cheap cordoniz tequila but spring for a top shelf for the extra 2 dollars! let's not be too critical of Salsalito. It is my favorite restaurant.. I go there regularly and the staff even knows my name and treats me like a friend. I suggest the pollo cilantro or the salsalito camerones (bacon wrapped shrimp) And if these bad reviews are scaring you away from this place, try it for yourself. I'm pretty sure 98% of the customers are return customers, Also, you can get anything from the menu togo including the monday night fajita special!
Bad Chips & Salsa, Bad Margaritas. I truly don't know how Salsalito got to be number 4 on Best Mexican Food. I thought San Antonians have better taste than this! Chips & Salsa are horrible, the salsa tastes like ketchup. The Margaritas are awful also, I do not know how they make them but if they went to the store and bought one of those buckets you stick in the freezer that would be WAY better than what they serve here. I live right around the corner and haven't been back since 2004. Also they are overly crowded with long waits, but I am not sure why! I guess no one wants to drive somewhere better.
Cheap and tasty food. The place is always busy, the food is good and plenty of it. The noise level is high, its very loud and hard to carry on a conversation
The chips and salsa are horrible!. Boy, it is the worse salsa. It is a joke. The enchilladas were ok but again the salsa is a joke!!! They do give large portions of food.
Definitely Worth The Money. Not too expensive and in an easy location, Salsalitos has become one of my favorite places in town to eat. The service is great and I think that the salsa is great as well. Another had called it below average but just goes to show you food is all about perception and your personal tastes. And the chips are ALWAYS fresh and toasty!!! Food is wonderful and there is plenty to eat ....meaning, come hungry becasue they DO NOT chince on portions!!!! Enjoy...I always do!!!
Not what I expect out of a Mexican restaurant. The food is not that great, the price too high, and the service below par. I was raised by grandparents who owned a restqaurant, I would not take anyone to this place.
Always a good place. I read the other reviews and while the salsa is somewhat below average, everything else is wonderful! Basically it's a mid level restaurant with plenty of choices, very good Cuervo margaritas and good service! I have been at least 3 times and it's always a pleasure. Despite the busy dinner rush, I have never experienced a wait. I would recommend this place to anyone who it looking for good, quality Mexican food.
Popular for Sunday brunch, this cantina proves good Tex-Mex doesn't need to be served at a hole-in-wall restaurant..
The Scene
Clean, with shiny tile floors and tablecloths, Salsalitos isn't the type of place most locals would go to for a Tex-Mex fix. But the menu offers dishes like enchiladas served with various sauces, chili relleno stuffed with smoked chicken and flautas. The bar is the place to wait for your table when it gets crowded.
The Food
The Botana is a popular dish to share with others as an appetizer or for one person to have as an entree. It comes with chicken quesadillas, nachos topped with either chicken or beef fajitas, flautas, guacamole and queso. Order a margarita, frozen or on the rocks, or try a michelada, a popular border-town drink made with beer, Tabasco sauce, Worcestershire sauce and lime juice.
