I’m a frequent client of Meson.
I have tried most of the dishes (all good), but my preferred one is Carnald ala Meson…. Is a duck breast with an exotic red wine sauce…. I just love it.
Service is also great and the ambience is like a classic European restaurant (Small and luxury decorated).
Sometimes they have alive piano music.
I definitely recommend it.
without a doubt the Best of San Antonio.
My wife and I went to Meson last weekend for the first time. A couple of good friend had recommended it to us, and, we had no idea what we had been missing!
Upon stepping into the restaurant, you know you are in for a treat. The atmosphere and decorations are beautiful: a mix of retro-europe and old hollywood glamour. But nothing compares to the food! We started out with an order of escargot and tortellini carbonara... I think Im addicted to their tortellini carbonara now. The dish was simply delicious, and perfectly cooked. For our entrees, my wife ordered the low-carb treat composed of grilled lobster tailed and grilled beef tenderloin. They were nicely prepared and served with a side of steamed veggies and the most delicious bernaisce sauce my wife has ever tasted. As for me, I opted for the duck. Let me say, that I have never been a fan of duck, but they have just changed my mind. It was prepared to perfection! and the red wine sauce was savory and delicious. Although, we were already full, we still wanted to try a dessert. We asked the waiter for suggestions, and he told us that their creme brulee was home-made. We tried it, and it undoubtedly was the cherry on top of a great dining experience. I would recommend Meson to anyone... To dine there truly is an experience.
A Wonderful Welcome to San Antonio Eatery. My wife and I moved to San Antonio last summer. We love European food and our real estate agent recommended Meson to us. We didnt find time to got until last month, and man, were we missing out on something incredible! The service, the ambiance, the music and food are all superb. Since then we have become regulars. My wife enjoys the french grilled lamb chops while the grilled salmon is my favourite. Last week, tho, I asked our waiter to recommended a beef dish, and he recommended the grilled beef tenderloin, andit was the best I have ever had. It was juicy, tender and cooked to perfection. I recommended this place to all my family and friends!
HORRIBLE DINING EXPERIENCE!. My husband, daughter and son-in-law went to Meson's celebrate Valentine's Day on Feb. 13, 2010. It was 7:30 p.m. and there were a few open tables in both dining rooms with no wait line. We were seated almost immediately - in front of the kitchen door. We were given a limited menu from which we placed our order, reserving our wine choice until we finished our cocktails. When our salads were brought, we asked for the wine list. It took several requests to the waitstaff including our waiter (who had frequently disappeared) until we finally received a wine list. We ordered wine with our meal but our waiter didn't even attempt to bring it until we were completely finished with our meal. My husband was given the wrong side dish and even after telling the waiter, he did not receive the correct side dish. The manager came to our table and asked if everything was ok and we told him that we were waiting for the correct side dish and it STILL never came! My son-in-law's meal was brought about 10 minutes AFTER ours and he had the SAME entree as my daughter! Our waiter apologized for his poor service and later the manager extended his apologies for the poor service at our table that evening, stating that they had some problems. Our waiter gave us a complimentary dessert for our inconveniences but that was a paltry attempt to satisfy our disappointment. We originally requested that our bills be separate for each couple but our waiter gave us a grand total on one bill. He realized his mistake and came back with two bills giving each couple the WRONG bill. Together, we spent almost $200 for a horrible dining experience. For the prices on their menu, service should be top notch and should live up to the expectation of FINE EUROPEAN DINING. At the very least, the manager should have compted one meal for each couple. (My husband did not receive the meal that he paid for and my son-in-law was served after everyone was half finished with their meals) I can't believe that they still charged my husband a full price for an incomplete meal. We will NEVER go there again. Be forewarned, this is an overpriced restaurant that falls short of a European Dining Experience. Don't waste your money!
We went for the first time this past weekend, and the food was absolutely outstanding. The table-side caesar for two was perfectly prepared and delicious. My veal piccata was equally good as was my wife's veal marsala. Five stars for food. The ambience was also good.
Unfortunately the service leave much to be desired. Attention to detail was lacking, no wine refills, no butter knives, no replacement silverware for that used. White wine glasses for a good cabernet (and only one at that). We were overcharged $25.00 for the wine, which was corrected after I brought it to their attention. Our waiter was very nice, and tried his best, but was obviously very inexperienced at serving in a "fine dining" restaurant.
Once they fix this "easily fixable" problem, I would highly recommend Meson.
The best food I have ever had in San Antonio.
I had dinner last night and found this lovely and charming restaurant to be the finest here in San Antonio. The food was superb--everything cooked to perfection. (I am a chef--it takes quite a bit above the norm to impress me!)
The service was unsurpassed, and my daughter and I were treated like royalty. The veal is so tender you could cut it with a fork! The trout, beautifully plated, was tasty and cooked perfectly, with a rich sauce and mussels and scallops infused.
DESSERT? I always judge a restaruant on how well the creme brulee is. This was indeed the BEST I have ever eaten. It was crisp on top, with a delightfully light custard below--cool, as it should be. And the Coffee was rich and not bitter! Wow! What a night!
The price was worth it! We DINED. We didn't just eat and get out of there. The atmosphere invites you to stay and listen to the overhead music, instrumentals of American Classics, carefully chosen and not too loud--while enjoying a coffee and conversation. the wait staff was very cordial, and kept our glasses full, smiles on our face, and showed what a true dining staff is.
THE BREAD WAS SO WONDERFUL! coated with a little butter, crispy crust, and the taste! Light and flavorful. The rolls are served in a basket, with a flat block of butter on a cool place.
I love this place! i can't wait for my friends to come from Switzerland so I can show them that San Antonio DOES have a lovely European restaurant.
good european. It has always been a pleasant dinner out on the town for me. Usually quiet, cozy, music in the background, with attentive service. As a steady client over the last four years, I can't understand a couple of bad reviews. Personality conflicts, maybe. The food is good, with a wide choice of entrees, desserts, and a wine list that is just a bit short of Wine Spectator mention. The food is pricier than the chain restaurants, but worth the atmosphere. The Steak Diane is of course done at tableside, as well as the flaming desserts. Bon apetit!
What a treat!!! I have traveled the world, and this truly is a gem! The staff is attentive and friendly! The restaurant resembles European cuisine in every fashion! Much as in Italy, the experience is dining, not a meal. My fiance pleasantly surprised me by taking me here for my birthday. I am from Dallas, and have had the pleasure to dine at some of the finest restaurants there- in Addison, Highland Park, and Downtown. I must boast to say that Mesons has matched and in many ways exceeded them all! To begin, the bread rolls resemble a croissant in tenderness and are fresh. The vinaigrette on the salad is unlike any variation I've had. My fiance had a steak in peppercorn sauce. The sauce complemented the meat and brought out the taste, rather than overwhelm or cover it. What a treat it was! I myself had a crabmeat special in a lemony butter sauce that was simply amazing! Nothing could have prepared me for our dessert however- banana's flambe. The sauce was flawless- neither too sweet nor too tart. The icecream tasted homemade! It was not too heavy of a dessert to end our meal. To put it simply- it was the perfect end to an evening. There was no sacrifice in taste for our food. It was prepared flawlessly, exceeded my expectations, and was one of the finest experiences in my life. Our waiter took a photograph of us and gave it to me as a memento for our evening. I enjoyed our evening and will recommend this restaurant to anyone I know in San Antonio. In fact, I asked our waiter with much anticipation when they would open one in Dallas!
Comparable to: Park Cities Club in Dallas; Sevvy's in Dallas; Sweet Basil in Addison; & my favorite experiences in Rome, Italy.
A big expensive disaster never to be repeated. I went to this restaurant to celebrate a business deal that I had made on a Saturday recently. I arrived at 7:45. There were several tables and a whole room that had not been opened yet. The maitre d tried to seat me at the kitchen door. I am a single professional business woman. This is a mistake that maitre d's often do with single women. I have traveled the world and this was one of my poorer experiences in a long time. We are in the year 2007 and this waiter is still back in the 50s. I sat up front at a great table after I refused the kitchen table. It was a half hour before I finally got my drink and bread and butter. Right after I sat down, a group of six,t hree couples, came in and were seated next to me. They got immediate attention, drinks and bread and butter. I had to ask over three times to get mine. Each time I had to find a wait person and each time it was a different person. As for the meal, it too was a disaster. I ordered veal piccata and it arrived gray, overdone, and in a matching gray gelatinous sauce with no flavor. The vegetables were not cooked and were very pedestrian. The pasta was tricolored, undercooked, and skimpy. I ordered the chocolate cake hoping it would salvage a losing meal. It matched in terms of mediocrity. It was hard, tasteless, and so dense that it was hard to chew. The only redeeming part of the meal was the bread and butter which was late as I mentioned. Throughout the meal I had over 5 different servers with no concern to please or follow up. It was a very expensive mistake. I will tell everyone I meet not to go there and waste their time and money. it is a greatly overrated place. I found nothing to recommend. Buyer beware.
Awful!. Don't count on Meson on a special day, maybe like VALENTINE'S DAY! We had reservations, (which they didn't even check) had to follow the hostess around to find out where to seat us, got the worst table in the restaurant, waited 20 minutes while a waitress and a manager (?) came by to ask if our drink order had been taken! We decided to leave, only after a waitor and the same mgr made lame excuses - said that I wanted perfect! Of course I do - if I didn't care, I would cook on Valentine's Day! Overall, it's super cheesy and the service is horrible.
