A Hidden Gem.
I tried Francesca's at Sunset after it was reviewed in the local paper, and then I did some research and it compelled me to take the plunge. I was very impressed and the food is very unique 'southern' cuisine. Everything was like nothing I had tried before. We actually had two full-time waiters helping us as well...which I find rarely happens. I've been here once, but it's very close to my house and the Shops at La Cantera, so I have a feeling I will be back soon. I give Francesca's an 11 on a scal of one to ten.

Nice, But Not Perfect.
The resort was beautiful and in a lovely setting. Our room was average size-wise but very clean and well-appointed. The pools were nice although they got a bit crowded on the weekend. The staff was very nice. During check-in and check-out, it is an absolute madhouse. The front drive is a nightmare traffic jam and the front desk is even worse. They will not guarantee early check-in but if you arrive early and a room is not available, you can check your luggage and avail yourself of the resort services and they will call you on your cell phone when a room is available. This is much better than waiting in the interminable line at 3:00. Also, request a late checkout or checkout early. Don't check out anywhere near noon. As for food, I'm being generous to describe room service as "average," but Francesca's at Sunset is terrific and the hotel also has a decent breakfast buffet. On a whole, we had a great time and are planning to return.

not worth the price.
while travelling to San Antonio with my family we looked for a family resort and decided beforehand on the Westin La Canterra. While it bills itself as a family resort, it was not worth the extra expense. The rooms are average at best (our non-smoking room reeked of tobacco) we had several problems with our stay. The front desk at check-in looked like an airport terminal (our wait was 75 minutes) all the staff acted inconvenienced with us. The pool is crowded and we wished we's stayed nearer the riverwalk at a much cheaper price. Look elsewhere!

Best kept secret in San Antonio.
For the best steaks and sea food in SA, this is the place! They serve only USDA aged prime beef. Grilled to perfection by chef Gilbert. These steaks are as good or better than Ruth's Chris or Mortons, plus you get a fabulous view of the city lights of San Antonio at dusk. During the summer evenings you can have a romantic dinner on the patio and enjoy the fireworks finale at Fiesta Texas. The maitre-de, Steven Krueger, is one of San Antonio's finest somolier's.
