Editorial Review for The Vineyards – by Lindsey Rausch

In Short
Take a short drive to the beautiful Hill Country for fine dining in a picturesque atmosphere. Dine on the glass-enclosed patio with views of the vineyard and rose garden, or in the candlelit wine cellar. Steaks like the mesquite-grilled pepper prime rib and seafood are the house specialties, but the menu also includes pasta, chicken dishes and desserts. Complement the meal with wine from the house selection of Texas vintages, such as the signature cuvee.

We selected the Vineyards for a special occasion with 6 people. When we arrived our table was ready and we were seated immediately. The waitress was efficient and we took a peek at the vineyards and outdoors while waiting for our appetizers. Next to us was a group of 8 who apparently were out in public for the first time. They were loud, boisterous, obnoxious, etc.The typical people who give Americans abroad a bad name, so you get the picture. They were so loud, it was hard for us to have our own conversation. When we spoke to the manager, John, about it, his answer was to "Next time come on a Monday or Tuesday, not a Saturday". Of course, he offered the obligatory apology, but he completely failed to manage the situation or to ask the party to tone it down. He refused to move the other party, even though these 8 inconvenienced roughly 6 other tables with a total of 20 people. If you want good service and a management team that is in control of their restaurant, skip this one. If you are just looking for nutrient replenishment because you are hungry, the Vineyard is a good place, if you happen to drive by. If you are looking for a special evening, speed up as you drive by the restaurant and give it a big miss. The food was wonderful and the wine was too, but the experience was ruined. We spent close to $400 and rushed out of there to get to a better environment.

Pros: nice location, away from the busy city

Excellent service, and the food was amazing. My husband took me there for our anniversary and we did the candlelit table in the vineyard for dessert with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries and this awesome warm chocolate cake - YUM! The prices were actually cheaper than some other nice places we've been, like Ruth Chris, etc., because you don't have to order everything ala carte. I really liked the wine list, because it's not 30 pages long and our server ended up suggesting an amazing Cab. I had the Chilean Sea Bass (it's not always available), and it just melted in my mouth. My husband had steak and said it was the most tender and juicy he could ever remember having. Their roses are blooming and you can see the little grapes starting to grow on all the vines, really pretty. It's about 15 north of 1604/281, but absolutely worth the drive. Plus, since you can park in front of the building, it's probably faster to get in and out of than a downtown place. Highly recommended!

Pros: Very romantic, friendly & professional service, amazing food

Cons: None!
