Editorial Review for Chuy's Restaurant – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
Chuy's is always crowded, with most patrons sipping strawberry-flavored margaritas or Coronas at the bar as they endure the seemingly required 30-minute wait. A typical mix of students, families and rowdy professionals eye the Elvis decorations as well as the large plates of food. Vegetarian enchiladas are stuffed with chopped onions, peppers, mushrooms and zucchini. The smoked chicken quesadillas are folded, grilled rounds containing sliced poultry, cheese, mushrooms and onions.

I have tried in vain to find a better Tex-Mex joint. This is the best there is period. Consistent, tastey and quick (once you get a seat). Well worth the wait.

Pros: Best Tex Mex there is

Cons: There is a wait. The decor is unique but cheesy

I've given Chuy's two or three chances since living in Austin and have never had a good meal there. Not to mention - do they buy their margarita mix from a liquor store? It tastes like that stuff you buy off a shelf? What about real lime juice? I usually get cheese enchiladas and I'm pretty picky about them. They weren't good at all. They were so dry, it was awful. I think this place has history in Austin and that's what people like. It's a great place for kids, but not when you're looking for good food. I couldn't believe they didn't have black beans! What the? Don't think I'll be going back unless I have to :-(

Pros: Fun environment, good service

Cons: Food/Margs not so good
